White stick and a Pooch in a coat please...

I've been getting Migraines the last couple of weeks... so I went to get my eyes checked this morning. My eyes have gone down -0.50 in one eye and -0.25 in the other.

So fed up of this now, my eyes have been getting progressively worse every 2 years since I was 11.

Even more annoying is that I can't read a book in bed without glasses or contacts anymore. Gone are the days when I can see the Letter chart at the opticians, let alone read things from it!

I'm a -4.00 and -4.50. What's everyone else? I know there are some others in here who are blinder than me...

Sorry, little Vent there... Just annoyed that it costs me so much just to be able to see.

My lenses (which are a slightly lower power than my prescription due to apparently that being how they do it?!)

    -6.25 / - 7.00

Do you wear lenses then? Daysoft daily disposables are great & <£10/month

So wish I could afford optimax

You know I couldn't tell you what mine are, all I know is that I've got sod all chance of reading anything without them. I think my right eye is the weakest as it was very lazy and I had an op when I was a kid to correct it.

I wouldn't look right without my specs now !

I was +0.5/-0.5 for most of my life so far, then 6 months ago both went down by at least 1 out of the blue. Weird things.

Asda have a deal on disposable contacts. Not so sure about the exact details but my collegues thought it was a good deal.

    I'm -2.5 and -2.25 ish.

I hope you're not straining your eyes by looking at monitors all day.

Re: White stick and a Pooch in a coat please...

PC's are to blame for a lot of my sight loss and migranes I had in the past - now I always make sure I am in a properly lit room, withouth bright light to avoid straining - means my eyes have settled quite a bit and I get a lot less headaches - I mean Im still in front of a pc 12 hours a day...

Re: White stick and a Pooch in a coat please...

Well yes, I am straining my eyes at the moment staring at monitors all day... but only because my prescription is all wrong - which is giving me headaches. Can't help but stare at monitors all day in my job. Although I do print out Blog posts to read in the afternoons so that I'm not constantly staring!

I've always looked after my working environment, and my eyes are still shot, it's just one of those things.

Yes I wear contacts when I'm not wearing glasses - they're also slightly less powerful (maybe because they're closer to your eyes??!) but not at the moment as that's what's giving me migraines. £20 a month for monthly disposables and free aftercare.

    Aspirin for migraines !
I always have some Dispirin Direct in my pockets. Doesn't do much for the pain but shortens the attack and often reduces the vision effects.

Re: White stick and a Pooch in a coat please...

Sorry Tigs, still pretty much natural 20/20 here - although I've not had my eyes checked for years and given that I stare at computers for pretty much all my waking hours I should probably get tested soon...

Re: White stick and a Pooch in a coat please...

My brother and sister are the same... they use computers a lot but have 20/20 still. Mum and Dad both have slight short sightedness (which has now turned into old-age long-armitis) but nowhere near as bad.

I've found Migraleve works for me at the moment, only used to get a random migraine every 9 months or so, but I've been having them on and off for a week now. Always the same though, so I've spotted that when I get a blank spot in my sight, that's when to do the drugs.

I never used the 'free aftercare' when with specsavers so saved myself the cash instead. One good thing when on monthly is that you could pretend you'd lost/ripped a pair & they give you a free spare pair every 6/12 months (can't remeber which) meant you could build up a little reserve of them for free

This is with the opticians I've been with since I moved to MK though - so I don't mind as they have a full history from when I was 5.
They'll also replace a damaged pair and give you unlimited aftercare (for example if I got an infection I might need to go back once a month for a bit) - they also give me 20% on glasses - but I'll be going back to specsavers for those.

I tried contacts once, but my eyes reacted quite badly to them so I went back to the old frames. In all honesty I didn't like not wearing the specs, I just looked odd when I wasn't wearing them !

Need to get my eyes tested soon, this thread has made me realise I haven't been tested for 4 years !

I had to join club four eyes a year ago, certainly due to using computer screens too much I'd become short sighted
