You know you're surplus to requirements when...

...you get a letter with this table attached.

Yep, that's me, somewhere in this list to go.

Oh and I got voted to be an employee representative so I aptly named my notebook...

(It's supposed to say "Book of Doom" but the crappy pens at work fail at writing at the best of times...cheap stationary pap!)

Geez - that's bad luck. Hope it doesn't come to pass. Are the redundancy terms any good?

What's the pet some executive somewhere made an Excel table to work that out!

    (\___/) (\___/) (\___/) (\___/) (\___/) (\___/) (\___/)
    (='.'=) (='.'=) (='.'=) (='.'=) (='.'=) (='.'=) (='.'=)
    (")_(") (")_(") (")_(") (")_(") (")_(") (")_(") (")_(")

Redundancy terms are government minimum so utter pants for 5+years of service.

Not too sure how much information I can divulge unless you are after some comedic notes I make during the absolute mockery they call "consultation".

Yep, both you guys are right...waiting for news on my Visa application - I knew this was coming so started making arrangements back sort of mid/end March. It wasn't confirmed if I was or not affected until yesterday. The whole Japan thing may not come off whether I get the Visa or not; I still have the task of breaking the news to all the family...

Not just my department, it's the entire shop floor/building. It stinks...but I'll keep my mouth shut as to why I believe it stinks - these things have been known to come back and bite you in the bum! What amuses me is one guy I spoke to this morning mentioned how a manager has been removed from the list and according to the new organisational chart he will be a manager of ONE (yes singular) person...so paying a manager something like £45k a year to manage ONE person. Laughable really.

BTW, I'm not cut up or upset about all of this but I am sad for the rest who are affected, who have mortgages, families, etc. I'm relatively lucky in that I am single, free and renting.

The first consultation meeting is on friday so...let us see how farcical it'll be - I've witnessed the last set of consultation/redundancies and it was an utter joke.

Re: You know you're surplus to requirements when...

Despite the severity of it all, that table is hilarious

I just love the idea of someone sitting there going

"Right, so column A, take column B, equals column C. Drag formula down. Sum formula for the first column. Drag across. 0 in column B. Drag down. Right, boss. According to the spreadsheet calculations, everybody's going."

"Ah, so my worst fears are confirmed..."

Hope your Visa comes through, would be a fantastic opportunity!

I did laugh when I saw the table. What's more amusing is that a couple of departments are wrong, ie Quality has 2 people and 1 is to go...yet the table only shows 1 in that department.

Windows as in the OS or windows, the glass variety? I could clean the latter, but not the former. Install the former but not the latter.

Yep, prepared for it, thanks to your comments in my other thread (as well as comments from others).

Re: You know you're surplus to requirements when...

    Bump Update:
Had our first consultation meeting today. My Book of Doom (Ooom) got used quite nicely...

Essentially the meeting just explained that the reason why we are all being made redundant is due to the roles no longer exisiting...although they may need our services just beyond our notice period...

The incentive is a 1 month bonus...(laughable really as I was expecting minimum of 3 months).

Overall the line was "business as usual" up until the 28th May at which point you'll most likely get a letter and told to "ger-orf me land!!".

What I found remarkable was the explanation on the down turn of business...I have my own opinion of where the company went wrong but I'm just a teeny tiny voice that is never heard. What the future holds is IGT and Structures and all I can foresee is "all your eggs in one basket" syndrome...again.

Anyhow, there was a discussion over the departments at risk and why...my notes usually ended with "DOOM!" for each department.

I have to say, much merriment was had during the meeting (/sarcasm).

Useful 3 hours spent in the first "consultation" period.

On a slightly different note, I found out this afternoon one of the higher up guys was battling for my corner - very nice of him to do so but I told him what my future plans are

Sorry to hear about that. But at least you have your Visa, and you are in a good position to see how life in Japan is really going to be like. If you had a partner, you would have to think twice, married with children, thrice

Re: You know you're surplus to requirements when...

Hehe..this is more of a log of the merry amusements that the meaningful "consultation" will take me through.

Right now I feel quite sorry for Dom and Fernando who came over on Working Visas...moved their families and all sorts...only to be shown the door. Trying to see what the company can do to help them.

When you said that everyone's being laid off, and they'd made you rep, I thought "wait, they want you to tell everyone they're fired, and then naff off yourself"! Hope it's not like that

We had a round recently. One of the managers has gone on another career break for a year after just coming back from a two year one. I think after this happening last year people are getting pissed as the dead wood has already gone (except me) and it seems to be a chance or voluntary. Unfortunately these are the people who always survive.

That list is amazing. They could have written a sentence!
