    Sat Nav The Americas

    Hi,

I have a TomTom One V3 which I find very useful, unfortunately it wont hold the America Maps and me and the missus were planning to use it to explore Florida on our Honeymoon in August.

So I need a new one, truth be told I only want to spend around £150, I like the TomTom interface but have heard the Garmin are better in America.

We are also going on a Fly Drive over in the US next year and will be using the said same sat nav extensively whilst we are there.

    Any suggestions.

I saw a TomTom Go 910 refurb for 99.99 but read horrible things about it.

    Bit lost to be honest.

    Thanks

    Re: Sat Nav The Americas

Are you saying it won't handle the American maps, or there just isn't space?

I borrowed a friends TomTom a few years ago and bought the US maps. I switched the stock 1GB SD card for a 2GB one and left them with the UK and US maps when I gave it back

    Re: Sat Nav The Americas

There isnt space, and unfortunately as its V3 there is no SD slot.

My friend says he will lend me his with a SD slot although as we are planning on using it several times I could do with my own.

If I cant find one at a reasonable price then thats the route I will have to go down

    Re: Sat Nav The Americas

Can't the TomTom management software backup the UK maps, load the US ones, then load the UK ones back when you get home?

You don't need them both on there for it to work.

    Re: Sat Nav The Americas

No even with the UK maps removed the USA maps are to big, ideally I wont Florida intially but it appears you can only have the whole of North America which weighs in around 850mb, my tomtom only supports 512mb.

    Re: Sat Nav The Americas

I'm surprised at that dude. Both that it only has that amount of memory and that you can't buy maps state by state, I was sure you could do that before.

    Re: Sat Nav The Americas

I looked last year and you could buy the individual area and that would fit on my device fin but it seems that you can only buy the whole of america now.

    Not a good service imo.

    Maybe I am missing something.

    Re: Sat Nav The Americas

TomTom and Garmin are panicking because their business model is being eroded by free sat nav on phones, they are probably now i 'gouge our current customer base mode'

    Re: Sat Nav The Americas

Haha your probably right. I have been back looking at older forums and they deffinetely used to do a south east USA map for my tom tom that quite comfortably fitted on the limited memory but its vanished into the abyss
