    Radio 1 Big Weekend

    Hi all,
Just thought i'd see who's going to (or has been to) a radio 1 big weekend event. I'm on placement in Aberystwyth when it's happening, so I thought i'd give it a punt to get a ticket. What're people's opinions of the event? For a free festival the line-up is impressive:

I'm looking at the Saturday, hoping to see Florence and the Machine, Alicia Keys, Faithless, MGMT and Bombay Bicycle Club

    I'd pay NOT to go

A load of my mates went when it was in the North East (Sunderland/Boro I think it was) a few years ago, they really enjoyed it.

Not a Glasto/leeds/reading style experience though

Faithless are meant to be amazing live

Yeah, that is a shame, odd too, because it's an over 16 event. Anyone over 16 who listens to that tosh (especially in public) must be on day release.

Course it isn't Glasto/Leeds, but it's free, and for that the line up is primo

    Re: Radio 1 Big Weekend

What on earth is there in Aberystwyth to be on placement for???!!!

1BW is to mainstream for me, you'd never catch me going.

and Faithless ARE just MORE than amazing live... one of the best acts i've ever seen.

1 - a hospital! I'm a medical student from Cardiff uni, and they can send us all over Wales in 5th year
2 - you say it's too mainstream, yet go on to say that Faithless are fantastic live... and they're playing

    Re: Radio 1 Big Weekend

I went to to the Big Weekend in Maidstone back in 2008. Luckily enough our whole group of friends managed to get tickets, which made it a great day out. Weather was really hot so we saw some good music and had beer and ice cream. Can't complain when it is free!

The line ups are exactly what I would expect from a free weekend from Radio 1 really, something for everyone.

When we went I think Madonna played the Saturday and it was Nelly on the Sunday. Neither of which I like but I did get to see Goldfrapp on the main stage, which was ace, along with Pendulum and the Wombats in the New Music tent which was really good.

Also saw a few other peeps that I can't remember now but they weren't normal mainstream from what I remember.

They also have the outdoor dance stage which normally has some vs going on with peeps like Pete Tong. If I remember rightly we were sat chilling listening to Vernon vs Pete Tong which was really rather funny.

No it may not be Glasto/Reading/Leads or Creamfields but it is free and good fun and you can't get better value for money than that!

Ahhh good Ol' Penglais... be prepared to get fit - it's halfway up the 11% hill - Plenty of us on here who went to Aber for uni too, so plz ask if you need recommendations of where to drink!

Faithless are about as mainstream as I go - and I went to see Faithless live, no one else. They are British pioneers of dance music and definitely gods in their fields (DJ's - gettit?!)

Radio 1 is too mainstream for me, so I'm not interested in a whole weekend of music just for one band.
    You'll have a good time, i don't doubt that.

I was going to wait for Radio 2's big weekend but I guess this'll do.
    PHP Code:

    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

Interesting. It's called Bronglais AFAIK, maybe it changed names? I've actually got my F1 (junior house officer) year there starting in August, and have never been there in my life (!) so any local info would be great. Don't suppose you know anyone with a house/flat to rent to two young professionals?...
