    Recruitment agencies; P C S Executive

Anyone ever dealt with / heard of, or have any feedback regarding using P C S Executive when searching for a new job?

Alternatively, if anyone could suggest a good agency to work through down in the South/West London areas, 'twould be much appreciated.

Never heard of them before, but there's a lot of agencies out there so can't know all of them.

Where abouts in SW London are you looking for work? I live near LHR and know quite a few agencies around here but not sure if that's too far outside of London for you.

Depends on the industry. I know quite a few in Finance. Generally, a bigger agency is better than a smaller one as they get more opportunities as they are on the PSL for more firms.

What sort of job are you looking for? Have you registered your CV with jobserve, jobsite, monster, cwjobs etc?

I'm already registered with a number of agencies and web based search engines, it just that these guys seem to operate differently. Still, I'll walk the walk and see what transpires.

A quick google doesn't bring up a positive impression. They look like they offer 'career coaching'. ie Give us all your cash, and we'll help you find work.

    I personally would avoid them.

    Re: Recruitment agencies; P C S Executive

Not heard of them either, but I do recommend signing up to bigger agencies as they do have more jobs.

Signing up with more than one agent is not a bad thing either, can produce more options, but there's a lot of overlap as well.

Recruiters seem to get miffed when they know you're with more than one agent, but that also makes them more active if they're interested in getting your business. So does not harm to let them know.

Try not to sign up to too many or you may find you day being consumed by phone calls every minute.

I'm currently changing jobs and signed up with Hays, Hudson and Sphere Group. Sphere Group were small and didn't get too many offers from them, Hays was surprisingly bad for its size and I never heard much from them (2 calls in a 4-5 months). Hudson, who have placed me seemed to produce the best results and most number of potential jobs to look at.

    Hi,
Hope you have a new job by now. Did you talk to PCS Executive further? Did they tell you about their charges? I read in the internet that they charge something around £4K for a year's service and all they do is review your CV and tell you to make improvements (if any) and they give you a list of agencies / advertisers to get in touch with. Did you have any first hand experience with these guys?
    Cheers!

    Re: Recruitment agencies; P C S Executive

First of all, I can't comment on how good they are as I didn't go beyond the initial 'interview'. It would have been 4k for a 12 month programme, but they did offer a 6 month for 2.6k. The programme would have included a single CV (which would be rewritten as many times as I wanted), and a set of personalised marketting sessions to prepare me. I would then be presented to their recruitment contacts. No guarantees.

Would it have been worth it? Well, here I sit, 5 months on, still looking for work... So it would be wrong for me to say anything wrong about them.

Do I regret not going with them? Certainly not. The job market, especially telecoms, is flooded at the moment, and I don't think they could have helped. Plus I had an irrational distrust fof the process... something just didn't sit right with me.

Therefore, whilst I won't recommend then, I won't put them down either. If you've a few grand burning a hole in your pocket and willing to risk it, let me know how it goes!

I really think this is worth saying

If an agency charges you as a perspective candidate money, walk away.

Agencies get their fees on placement of a candidate, normally 10%+ (often up to 50% if its really esoteric) as such they would NEVER need to charge a candidate money.

It often means they will coach you, help you with your CV for FREE, because if they place you thats money for them.

Thanks for the quick response guys. I have decided not to go for it. I would have tried them if it was a couple hundred quids but anything above 1K is certainly too much for me at this moment.

Goodluck ajones in finding your next job.

    Re: Recruitment agencies; P C S Executive

PCS (and their rebrands, e.g. exec2exec) have the modus operandi of spammers and scammers.

Step 1: sign up to receive an alert for every single CV sent to sites like Jobsite.co.uk. Recruiters can sign up to receive specific alerts, e.g. if they desperately need an electrical engineer, they can get alerts for that. PCS Executive get alerts for everything

Step 2: contact the stoolie, erm, jobseeker, with a form letter saying "we've seen your CV online and think we can offer you help finding a job"

Step 3: charge the rube, erm jobseeker, several thousand pounds for access to services that you can get for free elsewhere (e.g. at a Job Center) - CV review, seminars about how to apply for a job, etc. Yes, that's thousands.

Contacting everyone who uploads a CV is a spammer's tactic. I took Jobsite to task over it, and I believe they have now banned PCS from using Jobsite as a massive spammer list.

Charging jobseekers thousands of pounds for useless services is a scammer tactic. Anyone who falls for their ploy must be desperate - and will find themselves thousands of pounds out of pocket with nothing to show for it. Other sites where they have been discussed, e.g. Money Saving Expert, aren't convinced their "service" is even legal.

I will repeat what TheAnimus said:
