Friends, Hexites, Gentlefolk, lend me some reading time.
Dear HEXUS,
It's that time again when something has to be said about attitudes on the forum in general, but with a focus on GD.
There was a time, when HEXUS could hold a good reasoned & lively debate, on the most contentious subjects available without it degenerating info a facile display of willy waving & poorly veiled threats. Unfortunately attitudes over the past year of so have been increasingly combative and ill-tempered, with many good thread discussions falling foul of the ego and anger of some members.
Now, whilst we value your input, and there's no problem with a healthy argument if well formulated, the nasty, foul & malicious attitudes have to stop! :redcard:
NOW!
HEXUS is a family oriented forum which has always prided itself on its friendly all-welcoming attitude to all. We do not want to be sen as unfriendly, bullying, or fascist by any means, but for now on & for the foreseeable future these negative attitudes will not be tolerated.
The HEXUS forum is provided free of charge, at no cost to you, through the kind generosity of DR & the HEXUS brand, and should therefore be treated with respect.
Please. :surrender:
Those members who have been with us for a while know we don't mind banter, pi$$ taking in good humor, and when in calling someone out in an argument, what is and isn't acceptable behavior. Of course we expect members to fall out, argue, post silly comments & humerus pictures, but if you haven't done so lately, please re-familiarise yourself with the forum rules. Infractions, and suspensions will be handed out where it is seen to be necessary. If you are warned, please heed that warning. I don't like having to get all "Dad", it irks me no-end, and I so hate being irked.
Of course, if you don't like it, by all means leave. :)
However, we would urge you to stay, participate & help HEXUS grow and mature in the way it has to date, holding out the hand of friendship to all, new or old, whenever needed. We have a membership here that I believe, that has no equal. The knowledge base we have, the depth and breath of experience, and the unwavering friendship shown here is AWESOME!... fact. Hell, I feel proud to be a member, and call many other members, whom I've never met, "Friend".
So, the upshot is, just play nice, and if you can't play nice, try your best to be civil and respectful, and not to push the envelope too far. If you ask yourself "Can I get away with that?" don't put it :)
Thanks for reading. :hexlub:

Re: Friends, Hexites, Gentlefolk, lend me some reading time.
One of my few gripes with this site is the mods telling us the rules and enforcing them, but not following them.
It's one rule for EVERYONE! Even DR has to follow the rules.
And if you're wondering what I'm talking about, I mean the "Pi55ed" and "Pi$$".
I got infraction points a few weeks ago for saying t**t in a thread where a mod had said the same word .
So yeah, one rule for all.

Re: Friends, Hexites, Gentlefolk, lend me some reading time.
Consider your advice taken and the message understood OiD.
I don't tend to post in a thread unless I have something to say, as I've said before I'm all about quality over quantity.
In all my years on the net using forums have I gone out of my way to stir up trouble for other members or invoke Godwins law, which I have seen quite a few times on this forum recently which to be honest I find rather shocking because I thought we were all mature and adult round here.
As for the willy waving, can we leave that to the people on another forum associated with an online store ?;)

Yes - apparently it's all about equality here... *cough*
I shall abide - as I always try to do. :)
Have a great weekend all hexites - hope you get up to much fun over the bank holiday!

Split very firmly into 2 key areas:
1. Those who do not wish to feel the wrath of Rai.
2. Rai.
;)
I realise I'm probably one of those responsible for this, if I am then I'm sorry.
I do try to have a civilised debate (as I can do and do on a regular basis on a variety of topics), but it is incredibly difficult to have a discussion of facts when the definition of the word is unknown to the other party and then said party resorts to acting like a monkey throwing faecal matter at anyone who does not agree. It only happens with a select minority of members, and when it has happened with those not in that minority despite being heated bore (sp?) no ill will afterwards and was resolved amicably.
No intention to stoke the fire, set off the c4, or put my head in the crocodile's mouth, but it seems inevitable when I can firmly say I do not agree with someone's point of view, or attempt to play devil's advocate, but someone has to have an opposing view or it's not a discussion, it's a long drawn out agreement.

tl;dr
I agree completely.

Re: Friends, Hexites, Gentlefolk, lend me some reading time.
Got to say I agree. I thoroughly enjoy the discussion on here, especially around contentious issues. The vast majority is good natured and intelligent, although I have seen a few threads get derailed lately, which is a shame.
I apologise if anyone has ever felt I was getting personal or anything like that, I have some very strong beliefs and am more than happy to share them, but like I said I enjoy the debates, the back and forth. I enjoy hearing the opinion of someone who completely disagrees with me. Hearing every counter argument, better informs my own opinion.

Think I just saw a flying pig. If I remember correctly it was taken down because the banter got a bit out of hand. Pitty really, was good fun :)

Re: Friends, Hexites, Gentlefolk, lend me some reading time.
I have to say I always enjoyed reading the debates here on Hexus, especially the more 'contentious' ones because 99% of the things said are really good points and it's inspiring to hear some viewpoints that I hadn't considered before. I remember when I first encountered Hexus forums there were a lot of debates on religion. They were epic.
I really hope people keep raising important issues and not be afraid to post their opinions because that's what makes a debate and this whole forum such a great place. If someone decides to post something in bad taste or if someone is just an idiot I say just ignore them and try not to stoke the fire. I love the debates that go on here and I'd hate to see them get neutered because a small amount of people got caught up in personal exchanges. There's just no need. Peace dudes
