    Fundraising events

I am a bit puzzled by the concept. Not what they are trying to accomplish, but rather how they seek to accomplish it. I am referring to events where, from my understanding, you need to pay an entrance fee plus some form of sponsorship, which basically mean asking family, friends and acquaintances for money. And those events are often some form of gruelling physical challenge, again, nothing wrong with them (exercise = good), but I am just confused as to how it ties the activities itself.

I have nothing against donating (when I can afford to), or encouraging people to do so, and I have nothing against the odd physical challenge either. It's just that I don't see the relation between the two things. There are probably people adverse to the physical challenge but happy to donate directly.

    Am I missing something here?

Yes, it's usually a physical challenge that someone wouldn't normally undertake, so I might have a mate who would pay good money to see me run a marathon dressed as a giant phallus for example. If they wouldn't normally give that money to charity (or me) then there's a net plus if I do so for charity. Multiply that by 200 or so and you end up raising a lot of money.

Ah, I see. Actually, the reason I am asking is because I found out about this event: http://www.actionagainsthunger.org.u...vents/twinpeak
As someone who likes running stairs (*shudder*), it's something I might do 'for the lol'. But I am not keen asking others for money for something I'd do for free even though the money doesn't go to me.

People always do seem to things that are enjoyable (and showy-offy) though, don't they.

I'd pay good money to a co-worker or acquaintance's choice of charity if they'd do something mundane and unpleasant like smack their head against a wall for an hour, for example, but for them to do a parachute jump or motorcycle tour of India? Pfft.
