    I'm a geek, but....

I need to work out how to furnish my spare room, fit a desk in, sofa bed, all this stuff.

How come I'm here with squared paper, and a pen?

I no longer have a tablet PC, but I've got about 4 working laptops, lotsa desktops, but I'm using paper.

Did we loose a war or something? How come there isn't simple CAD software thats as easy to find as my old squared pad from uni!

I use MS Word for things like that... just enable the grid, set it to a nice scale and use a bunch of labeled text boxes...

    Re: I'm a geek, but....

Because, as a geek, you understand that, no matter how old and outdated a technology is, it is sometimes appropriate for the job at hand. Boot time nil, touch interface, cheap, disposable: I turn to paper every time I want to do anything scribbly, because computers just aren't as good for scribbling as pencil and paper. There's something about the tactile experience of drawing rough boxes on squared paper that you can't beat.

Unless you're sitting there with a ruler and measuring everything precisely, in which case there is no hope for you

    Re: I'm a geek, but....

Why didn't I think of trying that??

Seriously, I fairly recently started to boost my language skill, I rarely used pen/paper.

Even sketching my room layout (I used Paint!!).

That's just standard, I think - I don't know anyone who doesn't get excited about it

A lot of the furniture in my first house was Ikea, but that's just because it was my sister's first and she donated it when I bought my own place Big sisters are great!

    Lies!

four floor to ceiling book cases and two large ward robes all done by myself. Not easy but it can be done on your own.

The extra long floating shelves on the other hand, are near impossible to get straight without two pairs of hands. Same goes for curtain poles.
