Cats! Argghhh! Can I kill them... please!

OK, I'm hoping that one of my fellow Hexus members has come across this problem and can offer me a solution as I'm at my wits ends with this!

Baiscally it seems like just about the whole neightbourhood of cats seems to want to use my front garden as their toilet, and I'm feed up having to scoop their crap up so that the garden doesn't stink.

I have tried a number of different things, and none of them so far have worked:

    • Cat pepper
    • Curry powder
    • Raw Onion
    • Prickly plants (although they are still growing)
    • Netting (they find a gap at the side and crap there )
    • Bottles half filled with water (supposidly the reflection is supposed to scare them)

The powders seem to have a small effect, but it is short lived, and with the amount of rain we get is washed away all the time.

If I knew I wouldn't get sued for it I would fill the garden with mouse traps and bear traps, but alas that is not possible. Oh and shooting them, or planting catnip in the middle of the road is not an option either.

    So.. any ideas?

Mothballs work quite well - and Jeyes Fluid isn't so popular with Dogs as well...

Re: Cats! Argghhh! Can I kill them... please!

Ha, that's quite funny/annoying, I understand where you're sorta coming from, there is one (i think) cat that goes for plop-plops in our garden.

He's a cheeky lil fella, tends to always go in the same place (in a long plant box) and built up a little mountain of sh*te. Once I saw him doing it in another place where he dug a hole, went for it, and then covered it back up. He knew I was there, and had a total look of shame on his poor face. If that makes any sense.

Anyways, I call him Crapper Cat.

    Thanks for listening

Hmm, mothballs may be an option - not sure about the Jeyes Fluid though, don't want to kill the plants.

Oh, and forgot to mention that the garden at the front is only about 1m x 2m

Well, there goes my suggestions then (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4MDjlsbnas).

Disclaimer: All cats in this video are fictional. I don't really hate cats, nor would I actually shoot them.

Kind of appropriate as "Thomas" is a common name of a cat.

Tiger dung... do we have to follow him around the greens and fairways to collect this with poop bags?

I feel your pain because at night when I nip to the garden for a cheeky smoke I always get greeted by a chorus of meow's and there are about 6 cats all in the garden and on the shed roof.

I hate cats with a passion as they do nothing at all apart from come to you when they want something and they harm the wild birds population.

High-frequency cat scarer. Emits very high pitched noise that cats dislike but humans can't hear. Works very well - my dad uses one to keep the birds safe in his back garden.

Don't know if this is the exact one my dad uses, but this is the sort of thing I mean:

I had a similar problem with cats (though they were coming into the garden to kill wildlife) and I found one of those fairly long-range, pump-action water pistols worked very well.

You have to be persistent but it does become fun too, a bit like furry space invaders. It doesn't hurt the cat but it does annoy them. It works well on squirrels too.

You can get a lemon scented spray from Garden stores that is quite effective - helps indoors if you've got cats that are that way inclined (or senile) and I think there's an outdoor version too.
