Promotion to Helpdesk Manager... ITIL Now Worth Taking?

A few months ago I was moved up to HelpDesk Manager and it looks like it would be good to add the ITIL qualification to the experience I am getting. I am wondering if anyone here has taken an ITIL exams and if it was worth it in the long run?

I've got my ITIL foundation - not the most taxing of cert's I've done. its one of those ones that recruiters like and it has a few good ideas but its not a doctorine or panacea for all problems.

Any training or qualification is useful.

Remembering that if it isnt applicable or even if it's detrimental to a job, you dont have to put it on your CV.

Eg I worked in IT for years but also have a overhead crane license. Totally useless and I dont put it on CV, but that doesnt mean it might be useful

I've done a few ITIL exams. To me they seemed like pointless bureaucratic nonsense at the time of the actual course, but after a couple of weeks of reflection, it certainly highlighted some positives in the service desk environment. If someone else is paying for it - definitely, definitely go for it

If you're paying for it yourself, then I can't answer that for you. Certainly won't do any harm though.

I will be paying for it sadly (if I go through my work they want me to sign in blood to a 100000 year contract)
