    BA, unite will try again

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/10120896.stm

So the bunch of people who weren't able to learn how to speak properly are outraged at been caught out on a technicality, I do feel a bit sorry for them on that, governmental interference and increased paperwork is a pet hate of mine.

But the current gripe is the fact that those people who went on strike, despite the clear warnings of what would happen, have had their free flights 're-set' so that they go down to the standard of a fresh starter.

However the bit that really cracks me up, is the proposal that the union has now agreed, is the one that BA put to them BEFORE they went on strike and lost their benefits...... Oh how this makes me laugh.

So the union has done nothing good for its members so far, only cost them money in dues, money in lost because of them downing tools........ And they don't even have a better settlement than the one proposed by management, only they have now lost their benefit of free flights....

All I can do is laugh at them, and hope that next time they book a holiday some little douches who have life far better than most inconvenience them.

There is also reinstatement of some people. It does also make me laugh as effectively the union is on strike to try to get back the management position. I know Willy wants to crush them however I really don't understand why he can't let them win this one. If he wants to kick them a little perhaps remove 1/3 of the qualifying time for free fights, so some drop back to a lower level.

Between the strike and the volcano ash, I really wonder about the future of BA.

I sold my BA a long time ago and feel its one that I will leave others to make any profits on, the unrealistic union and pension for me are the millstones around its neck and they are not going away any time soon.

Re: BA, unite will try again

Well not really the deal that was put on the table was costed out as been affordable before the strike and the ash.

If the government isn't going to bail out the airlines for the frankley stupid European rules on ash (remember kids, there are plenty of other active volcanoes!) that means that BA will have to take the hit. Then add on the strike, it may well be the straw.

Given they are loss making already that would mean that either investors will have to stump up more cash, many especially the institutionals would see that as digging out of a hole, throwing good money after bad. So that leaves the staff and suppliers, because we know the consumer isn't going to pay more to fly BA when Virgin or Cathy offer better service for less.

So, the staff will have to bear some of the cost, ultimately many have already taken pay cuts, from ground staff to pilots, to management who are miles away from their options been worth that much.

Now all those other staff who took the cuts, this is hardly fair on them is it? They will have deeper longer cuts because some people decided to strike. They can at least forgo their free flight privileges for a few months! This was made very clear as a result of the industrial action, it has to be paid for by someone, why should it be anyone but those who caused it.

After-all the last action achieved NOTHING.

rubbish absolutely rubbish..the courts had a chance to do something sensible and keep up with modern times here, and they have decided to spark the whole thing off again.

I await the day that striking in this fashion is banned..and it can't come soon enough.

Re: BA, unite will try again

To be honest, it was a technicality that wouldn't have changed the picture even if they were all against the strike. But as to the strikes themselves, it is a bit like digging one's own grave. BA may not be the best, but I wouldn't go out of my way to avoid them in the past, for now, I'll have to.

Re: BA, unite will try again

What I find truly evil about all this, is the ground crew, the pilots and all the other BA staff even the call centre staff. They have all taken effective pay cuts, the cabin crew won't even agree to working a little bit harder.

    So selfish and so sad.

Meanwhile Unite is making lotsa money, so yes, lets stick it to 'the man' and help the workers.....

Are they all part of the union? I am quite sure the pilots are, but how about the ground crew, and other BA staff?

What's ridiculous is that this appears to be just about saving face from both parties, and until one backs down I can't see how this will get resolved.
