Just seen my first wasp for the year !

Have had my window open for most of the morning because it's nice weather outside and it does get quite warm here in my box. Had the fright of my life when a wasp buzzed in. I'm glad it buzzed off again as quickly asit appeared.

I hate wasps, and absolutley petrified of the things too !

    Summer is here I'd say.

Absolutely bloody hate wasps! I got stung off about 110 of them when I was 4 or 5, rolling down a bank and went over a huge group of wasps :\. Nearly didn't survive .

Haven't seen any this year yet, thank god!

    First one? Wow.

I've been seeing them for weeks. I booted three (or could have been the same persistent, and especially stupid, little sod three times) out of my bedroom, yesterday. Total this week .... about a dozen.

Anyone know of any good bug netting supplier?

Sounds pretty nasty, I know my Dad got stung 3 times last year when he stood on a wasp nest on our hedge. But 110 times sorta takes the crown there.

I've never been stung but my fear comes from a time when I was a kid and there was one buzzing round my head and the adult that was with me at the time tried woooshing it away which made it angry and he then said that the wasp stung me. Thats the story I got from my Mum anyway, I was only 4 at the time, for some reason can't remeber the event.

    ...
A friend of mine had a similar experience, though he was a bit older.

Mind you, he wasn't rolling down a bank. He was finding out what happens if you sling a banger into a wasp's nest. He sure did find out. They didn't like it much.

I, of course, was watching from a discrete distance. And I never knew he could run that fast, and still manage to do a passable impression of the St Vitus dance, at the same time. I did ask him if he would give a repeat performance if I went and got a movie camera, but he wasn't very keen.

I've had something buzzing in my room yesterday, though I am not sure if it's a fly or a wasp. I shoo them just the same They won't sting you as long as you don't show any fear Not responsible for anyone getting stung doing the same thing

Check for a nest in the eaves/attic.
We had wasps appearing ealier and later than our neighbours and turned out that we had a one in the attic.

Yup, had one years ago. No sign this year though, and can't see any obvious activity in neighbours. But I reckon there's something fairly close by, though.

Doesn't splatting wasps cause a chemical release that calls in more wasps ready for a fight?

I thought that was a way to stop children trying to hit/aggravate wasps? I could be entirely wrong though.

    They're not dogs.

The evil little buggers have been around for a week or so up here. Why can't they be on the decline instead of bees?
