Why does britain never get the weather right!

So normally we moan about it being to cold but we're now at the other end of the scale. It's just to hot!

When i can cope with the temp during the day but it's the nights is struggle with. There's nothing worse than being tangled in a duvet on a hot night.

And that's what's happening now. Plus, because there's now breeeze opening the windows has no affect.

No joke. Today i went to spain and it seemed colder there than it is here.

Two things Brits are really good at: moaning about the weather, and queueing. It's our national identity.

Ideally, we like to combine them: waiting in a queue, talking to other people about the weather, and having a good moan about how awful it is.

Re: Why does britain never get the weather right!

Sorry this just made me chuckle, growing up in Oz you learn to live with it (most peeps now have air con but we didnt when I was little)

Sleeping is the main issue heres some tips:
Just sleep under a sheet or a very light duvet (I have a 1.5 tog one for the summer)
If your room gets direct sunlight during the day close the curtains while the sun is on it.
Have a cool shower 10-15 minutes before bed
    get a ceiling fan
Sleep downstairs (heat rises you know why do you think 80% of house in Oz are bungalows )

It's not the heat, it's the humidity!

I'm afraid global climate change meals we will get more of these abnormal weather events. Something we'll (and our computers) just have to set used to.

Same here, I've got a tower fan going all night long, its a bit noisey but then I'm used to sleeping with my PC running for half the night. but then that said with how hot it is and with the over clocks I've got running on the CPU and the GPU I turn it off, don't want it over heating.

Re: Why does britain never get the weather right!

    I do this every summer:

That's five 120mm 12v fans running off a thermostatically controlled relay. Above is the latest version which incorporates a mesh stapled to the wooden frame to keep bugs out.

The setup I had before (below) had to be put away at night, in terms of number of bugs in it was far worse than just an open window.

Re: Why does britain never get the weather right!

Simple, because most flats do not have aircon (I *never* complain about it being too cold - just wear more clothes if you feel cold). The temperature in the UK even at the hottest is hardly record breaking, but it's just that countries that frequently hit 30C tend to have aircon.

    Cool indeed

It works really well, I tried it after seeing it on the Internet and I've shelved the idea of getting AC since.

Am tempted to build something like that myself. although not sure where it would go.

Does it generate much noise at all ?

Re: Why does britain never get the weather right!

A few years ago we got a portable aircon unit and it's an absolute delight to have available (although it chews the watts a bit, obviously). This morning I had to resort to a 140mm case fan pointing into my open case to try to stop my Q6600 breaking 75 degrees. Fortunately, I'd set up a molex sticking out of an open drive bay yesterday so I could use said 140mm fan as a desk fan to keep myself cool I love the idea of a big rack of fans propped in the window, but the better half would almost certainly kill me if I suggested it

In the UK? No humidity problem at all mate - it was gloriously crisp at the weekend and today.

If it was humid then I'd start moaning a bit more, but it's been fine so far - madaussie has all the right tips. My only addition to that is to run a few inches of cold water into the bath and leave it there -it acts as a mild heat sink with evaporation and if you overheat you can just stand in it for a few minutes.
