    Ever feel you're too picky?

Got his feeling recently that i'm a bit picky. Yet me give you a couple of examples.

A great one for me is when it comes to movies/tv shows. I have mine all backed up so i can watch them all from a nice interface (mediaportal). I spend hours striving to get the best picture from the blu rays my deciding how to store them.
Yet if i wasn't so picky i could go onto itunes and have movies download nice and easily with tv shows on there just after they've aired. And i could easily put them on my ipod and take them with me.

And then another example is with games. I spent about £1000 on my pc so i could play game on the highest setting.
But i could just use my Xbox 360 and admit it wouldn't be as good. I could then get a macbook air which would do all the pc tasks i want and be great for me to travel with (saving me buying a laptop)

Just my thoughts but my life could be easier at times i think

Re: Every feel your two picky

    Just a bit!

I refuse point-blank to buy DVDs of films any more. Of TV programmes - that's fine, but not films. Not really sure why.

I also have to meticulously rename all of my backups so that their filenames follow a specific template. Any deviation from that template means I have to go through and rename it all.

I don't really carry much of this through into normal life, it's just in terms of PC-based stuff.

I'm very picky when it comes to certain things... like right now I'm holding myself back from pointing out your spelling mistakes in the title!

It's not that I'm a "grammar nazi" or whatever, I just want things to be right. I hate it when I make mistakes though and do whatever I can to correct them ASAP.

    That's being too picky, right?

Re: Every feel your two picky

Picky or perfectionist? And when does the pursuit of perfection become obsessive? Is "good enough" good enough? (discuss! )

I don't know - I suppose it depends on what process or object perfection is being sought - and what matters to the individual.

In system terms (say) a sound system - is it worth striving for perfection (whatever that is) when the limiting factor is probably my ears?

I don't like seeing labels stuck on at odd angles, I like symmetry, or something that is pleasing to my eyes - but if I spend 30 seconds getting it right, that is probably normal - if I spent an hour removing and replacing it until it is just 'so' - I'd probably consider that obsessive!

(BTW - I agree with the comment about the title spelling - but I am dreadful at typos - and often I will go back to a thread I have posted and correct them, even though there may be other posts since then! - and I can be a bit of a grammar nazi)

Re: Ever feel you're too picky?

:awaits inevitable mention of Muphry's Law, and the ensuing argument and wikipedia references...

I'm oddly picky about insignificant things, considering how incredibly disorganised and messy I am in just about every other aspect of my life. But I'm certainly not too picky...

Mistakes in TV shows. Pet hate of mine if you get the facts wrong even in fiction. I will stop watching the entire series and shout at the telly...
