Getting rid of a wasps nest inside hard to access attic cavity
My room is in an attic, every day the room fills up with wasps, up to a dozen of the buggers.
I can see how they are getting in from the outside, via a gap in the roof slates.
They are also getting in from a gap inside the wallpaper, not sure if they have munched a hole in the paper or not though, but with all windows/doors shut over the past evening the room was again filled with wasps (fewer than usual though)
What is the best way to get rid of them? I know removing the nest is a must but I want to kill as many as possible first as I can't get to the nest without assistance
Thanks :)
Re: Getting rid of a wasps nest inside hard to access attic cavity
I think some councils have pest control people who can get rid of these - worth checking. Don't risk doing it yourself :(

+1 your local council will have a chappie that can do this, cheaper than a commercial company too

Oven gloves, wicker basked on your head, can of deodorant & a lighter FTW :D

Did you miss the hard to access part
and how are you going to use the lighter with oven gloves on?

£64+ for it and they use a commercial company in my area

nuke it from orbit... it's the best way to be sure ;)
Other than getting professional help, I dunno how your going to get rid of them unless you seal all their access points and just let the buggers starve to death.

Play Pantera really loud until they decide it's best to move on?
I've heard wasps don't like Pantera. Just avoid playing any Basshunter as they flippin' love him.
Re: Getting rid of a wasps nest inside hard to access attic cavity
We had a wasp nest in our cavity wall last year and was sorted for £3.99. I bought anti wasp powder, found the opening, covered up completely (ski goggles and all), waited until nightfall (when they should all be in the nest) squirted the lot in the opening as fast as I could and legged it in the house and shut the door PDQ. Scary and effective.
While I note you probably can't get to the nest itself, you could buy the powder and squirt it in the openings where they are getting in. I bought mine from a local hardware store. Don't get the spray though -it's not as effective.
Re: Getting rid of a wasps nest inside hard to access attic cavity
get a tin of flit.... Best way to do it is to make sure the wasps are deaded and then remove the nest. We had a nest on our shed, chap came round and puffed a load of powder onto/around/in the nest, and said give it half a day or so and then you can take the nest down - they'll all be dead or gone away, and he was dead right. I caught a big un trying to build another nest there though, so I hit it with a lump hammer and sprayed the area she was building on with some TF2 bicycle chain lube - not seen it since :)

Ant powder, that's all the council use, we had a nest inside our walls (via outside vent) and it killed them all off within 24 hours
Re: Getting rid of a wasps nest inside hard to access attic cavity
if you dont know where it is you could try the bug bombs, either the set fire to the top ones that smoke out the room or the can where you pull the seal and leg it.
if its the set fire type put in on a upturned plate on a tray full of water to prevent fire!
you will need to clear the house for a few hours until the smoke clears and remove the smoke alarms.

the fact I will probably have to climb onto the roof to apply the powder, it's just out of reach of the window, and removing the nest will mean taking out a partition

I have a good idea where it is, it's just a PITA to reach it and will involve removing a wall partition of some sort or another
Smoke bomb isn't a great idea, it's very close to where my pcs and all my AV kit is which is a few k worth of electronics and I don't want to risk damaging any of it, especially considering the open top on the av receiver and any chemicals in it that might leave residue
Going to go see what I can get from tescos in the mean time

Re: Getting rid of a wasps nest inside hard to access attic cavity
most people would cover up delicate items m8, it does leave a light soot in the room from experience.
whats stopping you removing the pc and amp ?
