    Mobile phone issue :(

I would post his in the mobile forums but this is a fairly urgent problem & i was hoping to get the widest range of views on what could be causing it. if admins could allow this to stay for a couple of days (i go on holiday on tuesday) i would be very gratefull.

Basically, my ''smart'' phone is refusing to send text messages to ONE particular number reliably. Every single other person i text the message goes through instantly, except this one number. This number has been texted regularly for over 4 years now without fail, for 18months on this phone. Now I have to send 3-4 texts before ONE is received. Sometimes its the first one, sometimes its the fourth or fifth.

I have reset the phone, as has she. I have re-set the connection settings on t-mobile, as has she. She isn't having problems receiving text messages from anyone else...just me. We are both on t-mobile. I have tried using +44*number* and 0*number* to see if that did anything and it did not. I have no problems ringing her or receiving texts off her.

I installed a new ROM (an operating system for phones) last week, but I dont see how this would cause problems sending a message to one particular number.

Can anyone think of what could be causing this? Thanks guys

    So...

    - No-one else has an issue sending her texts?
    - You don't have an issue sending texts to anyone else?
    - The only thing that changed between the two phones was your ROM?

Tried your SIM in another phone? That'll rule out the handset instantly, can you swap phones for 5mins to test it?

Have you rang T-mobile to see if they have any ideas?

As a general rule, no, it'd be moved.

But seeing as you asked so nicely, and it's urgent, okay.

Note to everyone else - this is not a precedent, it's a one-off.

    Re: Mobile phone issue :(

Thank you very much Saracen. Normally I would just leave it to the mobile phone & be more patient but she is the mother of my daughter (my ex) & if I can't trust my phone to get the messages through im in a sticky situation.

Yep, it is JUST to her these messages arn't getting through. She receives messages from everyone else fine, just as I can send messages to everyone else fine. I have sent 5 messages to her today (3 'test' messages and only one has got through. I have texted myself 3 times (various messages sizes) and they all came back instantly, as well as texting someone else & it getting through first time.

Through a process of elimination, the smaller the message the higher the chance of getting through. So, a text message 4 messages in size doesn't get through but a text of just 1 message in size usually does. Can anyone think of what would cause this? I tried T-mobile and they just said to reset phone, reset connection settings etc, before apologising and telling me to contact the manufacturer.

Can't find another phone to test it will, but im looking! Thanks guys

edit: and no, she isn't ignoring me. She has shown me her phone & with her wanting us to work through things, ignoring me is the last thing im worried about.

    Re: Mobile phone issue :(

I had a similar problem to this once before, in the same situation. Do you have loads of text messages saved from that person? Might be worth deleting them all as I think this stopped it.... either that or it just started working again. Was very annoying tho cos it did it for a few days.. I might have changed to a different rom when it started working again also.... on Windows Mobile btw. With Orange and my lass is on Three.

    Re: Mobile phone issue :(

what phone is it mate? few things you can try but depends on the phone:

    1. Try your sim in another phone (as rob said)
    2. Install STOCK Rom
    3. Install a new radio
    4. try alternative ROM

If it doesnt work in the other phone then you should request a new sim asap.

    Re: Mobile phone issue :(

I am about to reset the ROM, hard reset & then a new ROM. Text message 160 characters (ie 1 text) go through fine, but any bigger and they wont. As far as i can tell, I don't have this problem with anyone else at all!

As a quick favour, is there anyone who has MSN and who wouldn't mind me sending them various txt message sizes to see if they work, as i try different ROMs & settings? the one evening i need my blumin MSN contacts & no one is online!

She isn't mucking me around & is not the type to do so. She has already told me how it has worried her when I haven't txted back that & has made a couple of facebook status along the same lines.

    Thanks Hicks, have PM'd you

My mother had something similar happen. She was the recipient, with an older Samsung phone. When reading a text message, just one accidental up-arrow and two clicks were needed to add the sender to the block list.

    Re: Mobile phone issue :(

...and a new radio (communication software) still solves nothing. Yet txts go fine to everyone else!

So its not the phone, not the sim, not the ROM or the radio. its still fine for everyone else, and yet anything more then 1 txt in size does not get delivered to her. I can only assume its her phone?
