Top Gear was poo, but do watch the Trent 1000 engine being built! (One of my home computers was involving in building the 800 at the same factory, in a small way).
^^What small way???

Completely agree... TG was formulaic at best, but the RR engine program was brilliant - did you see the nuclear submarine one last week? Epic stuff.

Yup - excellent series - and a timely reminder that manufacturing and precision engineering isn't completely dead in the UK.

Maybe it was an average Top Gear but I did love Clarkson having a go at Alistair Campbell!

I must admit, TG is starting to get quite lame. Atleast Hammond has stopped hitting James car everytime (that was so old, I would have punched him by now). All the "features" as starting to become very formulic, last nights show was nothing orginal. Last weeks one which seemed to be "how many RR can we trash" really annoyed me, OK watching one fall over was funny however he was driving like a dick, which kind of took the edge off the joke. The "How to build" series however is great!

To be fair, they just switched that round last episode for comic effect.
The thing that really hacked me off with that last episode was that it seemed like a great idea - finding a car that would take your family on holiday and go round a racetrack. But limiting it to £5k ensured that all they'd get is a load of rusting junk, especially when they're all so desperate to be miles under-budget, there was absolutely no good reason to do it in Germany, and they didn't actually do anything of note with the cars. Normally there's at least a range of interesting challenges, but this was just the same challenges, again. And then they didn't even bother to show one of them.
Badly executed in my eyes.
Yeh, I was very disappointed in that episode. Them cutting out the 'MPG' bit was a massive joke aswell, smacked of lazy editing!
The how its made program more then made up for it though, very impressive series & hopefully it will suck up some of the ratings from Top Gear!
The how its made program is superb, good to see the beeb doing something useful with the licence fee
I've been enjoying the new series so far, actually.
The how to build... program is great, looking forward to the rest of that. If you like that kinda thing, Richard Hammond's engineering connections is really good too. I was a bit sceptical when i saw it advertised but it turned out well.
I'm pretty tired of the over acted, fake laughed at gags they script write previous to recording the episode, for me Top Gear in general is missing the natural comedy of its presentators, replaced by someone elses idea of whats funny.
The "wedding" stuff on last nights episode is a typical example, James May gets lost, yet there are cameras in the roads he gets lost in watching him do 3 point turns.. the runway that they got "told about" by the passengers in jeremys car, just happened to have cameras set up all over the place, cmon, its all getting a bit fkin retarded for my liking.
With that said, I still enjoy it and will watch every ep.
