    Curse you, right foot!

    I hate my right foot...

The letter from Notts Police loves it... AND they must think I'm an awesome driver as they want to endorse my license again, how cool is that??

Sadly, I was 1 mile and hour over the limit for just going on a course to be told I'm a danger on the road... so now I have to wait and see what fine they're going to plonk on me...

Yeah, I know it's my fault and speeding makes me the spawn of Satan but in my defence, I was too busy juggling my sausage roll, coffee and mobile to bother with how fast I was going...

My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good
scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

Indicated 33? You're probably fine. There's a some leeway on speedos and the police are usually a little more forgiving than cameras.

I can remember a Police Chief (Welsh Police I think) a couple of years ago saying that motorists should be prosecuted for going one mile an hour over the limit and was promptly shouted down (well... kinda) as it was made clear that this simply can't be done due to the vast majority of speedometers that are fitted to cars currently on the road being far too inaccurate (as I'm now well aware of, I went down to Doncaster last year to pick some alloys up for my Coupe, ebay can be handy can't it, and had borrowed my brother-in-laws gps, at sixty there was a bout a three mile an hour difference, car showed sixty, gps shows 56/57).

    Re: Curse you, right foot!

My cars speedo is pretty bad if my tomtom is anything to go from. It seems to get worse the faster you go; about 3MPH off at 60 then when the speedo says 90 its actually 82.

Bad luck you got caught, in general i think the limits on the roads are quite sensible but it can be quite tricky to stick to them at times due to bad sign posting or constant back and forth 40-60-50-40-50-30-40. I think i tend to get a bit complacent when i know the area too well and find myself driving faster without realizing im doing it.

Motorways i think are a joke, the fact we have a 70MPH speed limit on motorways throughout the country is madness baring in mind how big and well managed a lot of them are and how safe most modern cars are. IMHO some of them should definitely be bumped up to 85 or so, most people (myself included) tend to go that speed where possible anyway.

    Re: Curse you, right foot!

i think the descrepancy varies between 3-6mph (enough to get you done on the higher end of the scale). my garmin give me a difference of 4mph - althoughthe faster i go the more accurate it gets .

have a look at this http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...cle1377687.ece

and before amyone flames me, yes it's the sun. but if one civvy can do it - what about all the others (police included).

    Re: Curse you, right foot!

...in general i think the limits on the roads are quite sensible but it can be quite tricky to stick to them at times due to bad sign posting or constant back and forth...
I agree that the majority are sensible(ish). There are a few that I can think of locally that I don't think are right. The most obvious is the residential area that i live in which i think should be a 20 not a 30.

Why are speed limit signs always right on top of a junction?
Near me there is a road that used to be 50, then national, then 40. They changed the limits so it is not 40 - 50 - 40. They also extended the 40, the 50 is now only about 800 yards long, I mean, why, whats the point of the 50?

I'm generally pretty good at paying attention to the speed limit, but there is a road a drive along every day through a village. The village is a 30. One night, I drove home and noticed a 30 sign where there should have been a national limit sign, "um, that's odd" I said to myself, someone probably turned the sign round. 50 yards on there was a national limit sign. Still odd. Now, I only drive home along this road and it was winter so I was always driving it in the dark. I figured out that they must have changed the speed limit through the village, but it took me nearly 2 weeks to actually find the start of the new 20 zone. They had stuck the speed limit sign on an existing pole above another sign. The extra height meant it was above the area that was lit by my headlights!
