    BBC Proms 2010

Anyone else enjoy these? They start tonight with Mahler 8

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/proms/2010/

For anyone new to them, they're a whole summer of classical music concerts (mostly) at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Tickets are amazingly cheap for the quality on offer, and even cheaper if you just queue up for a £5 standing ticket before the prom starts.

Even if you're not into your classical music there can still be some fun Proms to go to - the Doctor Who Prom is more of a show/tie-in than a concert for example. This year they're running it twice on Sat 24 and Sun 25th July. Last night of the Proms is Famously bonkers as well, but obviously it's quite a bit of luck to get a ticket (but still worth a go if you can get to London - and still only £5 if you get a ticket by queuing).

Of course, you can watch/listen to them all at the BBC, but at these prices I really recommend getting there in person if you can - proper music does not transmit well regardless of the medium.

    Re: BBC Proms 2010

Ive followed the Proms since my school days 40+ years ago.

Been to hundreds, never a last night though.

Best for me is just before last night usually Verdi Requiem or Beethovens 9th

Funniest was seeing my old aschool mate David Owen Norris Playing a piano concerto. His nickname then was Noddy (D O N initials backwards = NOD -> Noddy). We had a banner that said "Hello Noddy" - he groaned visibly when he saw it, and the chap sat behind us asked what it was about. We told him not realising it was the BBC commentator Now the world knows his secret

Went to Proms in the Park free folk day in 2008 and saw Bellowhead - fantastic.

Nothing tickles my fancy this year
    Cheers, David

You might like prom 14, or is that too much beethoven?!

There's a couple that have immediately caught my eye - for myself I think prom 16 and 42 look nice, maybe 62 as well, and for people not into classical music as much I'll definately be recommending the Dr Who Prom and Last night of the proms 1910. Need to look at it more closely for others.
