If Wisdom is the coordination of "knowledge and experience" and its deliberate use to improve well being then how come "Ignorance is bliss"
I sometimes sway wildly between left and right wing views depending on the subject matter, typically only "in the heat of the discussion", though. Ultimately, I come out very liberal.
So politics is a lot like sex then, if you're unsure, swing both ways - you'll likely get screwed at some point![]()
I'm largely with O'Farrell on this, but then I think that the Telegraph and its ilk have and promote a somewhat distorted idea of what leftist/liberal thinking is anyway; and to a great extent they've been allowed to get away with it. I'm reminded of Bruno Gianelli, the late, great Ron Silver's character in The West Wing:
Because I'm tired of working for candidates who make me think that I should be embarrassed to believe what I believe, Sam! I'm tired of getting them elected! We all need some therapy, because somebody came along and said, "'Liberal' means soft on crime, soft on drugs, soft on Communism, soft on defense, and we're gonna tax you back to the Stone Age because people shouldn't have to go to work if they don't want to!" And instead of saying, "Well, excuse me, you right-wing, reactionary, xenophobic, homophobic, anti-education, anti-choice, pro-gun, Leave It To Beaver trip back to the Fifties...!", we cowered in the corner, and said, "Please. Don't. Hurt. Me." No more. I really don't care who's right, who's wrong. We're both right. We're both wrong. Let's have two parties, huh? What do you say?
Actually the distortion is much more the other way round in the UK, with the "left wing" media creating a spurious perception of right wing thinking. The BBC being easily the worst perpetrators.
To be honest though the whole left / right thing is pretty much irrelevant these days, perhaps more pertinent is the concept of individual freedom vs. control by the state.

Respectfully, the vast majority of the media in this country is owned by the Right, so I'm afraid the great librul meeja conspiracy doesn't exist.
