Housing contract - Land Transaction Return

I am filling out some paperwork on a house I am soon to be moving into (a thread will be created in due time ) but I have to fill out a ''Land Transaction Return'' which has to be the most ridiculously worded document I have ever seen in my life. My solicitor (ohh arr) wants £42 to do it, but I figure a few ticks here and few boxes filled in is within my capabilities..or so i thought.

Has anyone ever filled one in, or have any knowledge of it. A few things (everything ) dont seem to make sense, and i was wondering if anyone could fill me in a bit?

What are guidance notes & where can i find them? A few boxes tell me to refer to them for information. Does anyone have any guides or walkthroughs for it? I have had a google but the guides seem as complicated as the land transaction does, can it also be completed online? Again googling only further confuses me!

    Thanks guys

Never heard of one! Is this buying or renting? I'd assume buying if you're even considering paying someone £40-odd to fill it in...?

It's the stamp duty return for the Inland Revenue - I don't remember my solicitor charging extra to complete it when I bought my current place, but given his overall fee was around £1,800 I guess even he wouldn't have had the brass neck to do so.

I just had a look at the guidance notes, and frankly £42 seems like a bargain to make it go away.

Oh please God give me strength, who the hell thought out these web sites? I have never seen such an obtuse, unhelpful and down right crude way of displaying information or links in my life! I spent 4 years and graduated with a 69% in Mechanical Engineering, and I can't make head nor tails of this!

edit: For those of you that don't hate life, this will change your view on it!

Re: Housing contract - Land Transaction Return

So you still think paying your solicitor £42 to do it for you is too much? I paid mine (can’t remember how much) because in the grand scheme of purchasing and furnishing a home this amount is insignificant (to me). When I was buying and moving into my first home in the UK I had far more pressing concerns than filling out administration forms .

    Stamp Duty Land Tax return.

    Piece of wee.

What are you struggling with, engineer?
