    Where to go mountain biking in Europe

    As per the title I'm looking at going mountain biking in Europe and i really have no idea of where to start (apart from the alps really).

    I've been to Whistler in Canada before and thoroughly enjoyed it but I'm looking at something a bit closer to home this time.

    Now ideally I'd also like to be able to get there using a train as i know when i took my bike to whistler it was a right pain but that doesn't rule flying out.
    But I'm aware that trying to get on connecting train in a foreign country with a bike could be tricky so if the eurostar get's me to the resort (extremely unlikely) that would be great.

    My gf and I went skiing to Saalbach in Austria last winter. It's a small town, NOT a purpose built ski resort and it was great. Supposed to be great in the summer for walking and mountain biking as well.

    Can recommend a great guest house if you are interested.

    edit: A bit more info for you;

    You can fly to Salzburg then get the public bus from the airport to the middle of the town VERY cheaply, so saves a bit on a transfer.

    You can take take mountain bikes up to the top of the mountains on the chair lifts.

    Some great bars in the town and up the mountains.

    This is the guest house/hotel we stayed at. Liked it so much we are going back this winter.
    Pension Enzian Check out the mountain biking and summer tabs.

    Hope that's of interest.

    Interlaken (Grindelwald, Wengen etc) is absolutely stunning in the summer and has got well marked trails and tracks to follow.

    Easy by train too... (<3 swiss trains)
