    Connections

I'm feeling a bit down today, still managed to loose weight (1.5lbs but cracked and had a pizza monday so should have been better) but I feel so... unconnected from the world. I miss having someone who I can be excited with about how everything is going.

I was wondering, how do other people cope with these feelings of disconnection from the world? Do you rely on your family? On internet forums? Facebook?

    Re: Connections

I went through a time when I felt like that, I also felt disconnected from myself, like I was shrinking away inside, very odd.

I got myself a hobby or two. Started messing around with VB back then, gave myself small targets for each week. I can't really say anyone else was much help to me to be honest.

Get a hobby - join a few interest groups - don't rely completely on the internet.

Look up some old friends on facebook - see if they want to catch up over a slimline tonic...

Suck it up - be brave - and do it (been there, done that and its so much better on the other side!)

    Re: Connections

Pick something that you will hate more then anything else, and take all your anger out on it...golf for example!

Or pick a project & suffer due to that:
    http://forums.hexus.net/general-disc...ml#post1958812

But in reality, try a hobby that will get you around other people. Try out a gym taster, see what classes they offer. My Auntie recently started doing an Army fitness class at the weekend, she hates it but has met some truly fantastic people. Try the free trial, what have you got to loose?
I am considering doing it currently:

^^ Feel like that quite a lot, mainly at night, when I cant sleep and the mind starts to wander to random (usually depressing) things. I find it can help just to text someone, to stop trying to sleep and read a book, or to try to arrange to see some people just so you can say to your self "look, person x, y, and z want to go out some time... I am not alone...".

You could try and find out which Hexites live near you, as then you will have someone close who shares an interest and you can see in the flesh (that makes a big difference, actually talking to the person, and being with them is far better than fb chat). Then have a mini LAN party XD, it makes you feel far better about yourself if you have been gaming with other people rather thank alone.

Just my 2p.... Hope you are felling better soon XD

    Re: Connections

Ouch mate, I know that feeling. Thats where I was quite some time ago. The best thing to do is not to dwell on it, and not sit on the internet. It just drags you down the more you sit here and actually not do anything about it.

In a way its a pitty you don't live down here in Cornwall else I'd be saying come out with me for a few beers or lets go cruise around and see what trouble we can get into.

Before I quit my job I'd come home from work, veg out in front of the PC or latop, after this not making me feel any better I joined a local club. I'm now a member of the local Camera club, I admit its pretty much full of old men but for just that evening a week I can go out, have a good laugh with them and learn new stuff about my camera.

That said we've broken up for the season now untill September. However since I've quit my job I've been out more than when I was working, either out seeing friends and watching DVD's and having a laugh or out seeing family.

You aren't alone here mate, you've got plenty of friends here

    Re: Connections

Thanks everyone who'se replied, I guess I was feeling sorry for myself last night, despite everything that happened, I do still miss my ex-wife on occasion and end up feeling a bit weepy.

I am trying to get out a bit more, which is why I started this diet and the exercise classes, but it's still not the same as having a single person who you can relax with and drop away the "mask" of the day.
