    Interview tomorrow

    Hi all

I've got my first interview tomorrow for the position of Warehouse person/Van Driver.

First interview I've had since I've been unemployed (now a month) and while I'm not looking for interview tips, more a case of what to ware.

I'm thinking my really smart black trousers and a dead smart shirt and tie and not the jacket that came with my suit when I got it as I think thats just over kill for the type of job it is. I don't want to turn up in jeans though either and look scruffy.

    Quite nervous but excited.

Put yourself the jacket on - turn up overdressed and the worst that will happen is that you'll be the smartest looking guy in the room. Turn out underdressed and you could easily blow any chance at the job from the get go.

    Re: Interview tomorrow

Definitely better to be over dressed than under dressed, at least your interviewer will realise you've gone to an effort and are serious in your application.

From experience, many recruiters I've spoken to say that to a certain extent many interviewers make a decision within the first 30 seconds predominantly based on how someone looks; after that it's about justifying their choice.

    Re: Interview tomorrow

Trousers, shirt and tie will be fine. More to the point: relax, be yourself and most of all be friendly and confident. They're looking for someone who wants the job and can do it well. You fit both those criteria so make sure they know it.

I'm not someone who walks into a room and immediately owns it; I can't sell coals to Newcastle etc.- but I've never failed an interview, because I always go in with a positive attitude. Be friendly, be polite, be honest- a good answer to a question along the lines of "what would you do in x difficult situation" is...."in the first instance I'd seek advice from my line manager".

    Above all, good luck.

Wear the suit, then if you look overdressed compared to the person interviewing you, take it off and put it on the back of the chair as you sit down. Whilst this is a blue collar job, you want to show them that you're taking it seriously and that you're wearing your best clothes as a result.

Maybe just take the jacket off, whipping off the whole suit may be a touch too informal...

Best of luck with the interview.

Yes good luck mate. I'm mirror the advice already given. The most important thing is to come across confident, friendly and a team player.

    Re: Interview tomorrow

sound advice has already been given. Regardless of the job I'm going for, I always arrive smartly dressed, with a smart jacket - it could be a shelf stacking (no offense) job for all I care, but I still want to give the right first impression - the one thing you only get one chance at

    Re: Interview tomorrow

I did the full suit, and it turned out I was better dressed than the guy conducting my interview.

Its hard to tell how it went, I think well. Thats the shortest interview I've had though, I got told a bit about the company, the job, he asked me a few general questions about my hobby's etc, I asked a few questions about pay and hours (whats there to ask about a Warehouse/Driving Job)

I was confident but open, nothing really phased me, said I was happy to drive long distances in the supplied long wheel base Mercedies Sprinter Van.

When we parted company and shook hands I said "If I'm successful I look forward to working with you and thankyou for your time"

I now have to wait a week to find out if I get the job, I was the first one interviewed today too.

Well fingers crossed for you! Also, once you've had one kind of job like this, there's usually a load more out there even if you have to work for one of the sucky carrier companies

    Re: Interview tomorrow

The carrier companies pay the drivers per delivery, not per the hour. At least thats what DPD told me last time I had chat with one of their drivers.

    Re: Interview tomorrow

In my last interview I was better dressed than the interviewer, but it didn't do any harm I still got the job.

Hope it goes well for you, good luck.

Its all about a persons skill and knowledge, not how sexy they dress. My mate went to a interview on jeans and a t shirt for a software developer role and landed it.

Yea theirs a limit to how yo dress up but a suit depending on what type of job your going for is overrated.
