Virgin Media - ways of making it cheaper?

I am just about to start a virgin media contract, medium+ TV, medium internet(10mb) & free evening and weekend calls (fairly basic package for around £33).

Now Hexus has never failed to amaze me as the sheer scope of knowledge on here so was wondering if anyone knew of any ways of making it a bit cheaper before I sign on the dotted line? I know quidco etc offer some deals, but can i haggle on anything like that, or will that just end up making me look daft over the phone.

I originally wanted to go with sky (never been a fan of VM tbh) but the BT line can only give me ''up to 1mb'' so I need Virgin to get any form of acceptable internet.

This is a shot in the dark but figured it would be worth a go! Thanks guys

No knowledge of VM specifically, but I doubt you can use Quidco as a bargaining tool.

Typically, firms and cashback firms don't even work together directly, but through an intermediary whose general task is to boost sales. So bottom-line sales staff probably haven't even heard of Quidco, and it doesn't affect their negotiations with a customer specifically. In other words, if a sales rep looks at two different accounts, one with quidco, one without quidco, there will probably be no difference as far as their systems are concerned.

The only people who will know about the cashback arrangements are the high-up marketing staff, who couldn't give a damn about individual customers.

Re: Virgin Media - ways of making it cheaper?

find someone who works for virgin, get mates rates

typically 20 Mb Broadband, phone, XL tv package (160 channels) (free phone calls on package)

ebilling and direct debit, charge is 33.50 which is a saving of erm, 33.50

so, find a nice friendly virgin employee (employed for at least 3 months or 6 for an outsourced employee) and maybe not save money, but definitely get a lot more for your money

    including V+ box

Re: Virgin Media - ways of making it cheaper?

I always try to avoid installation charges. When I have had to pay if they do damage to my house and cover it up I phone and get it refunded (they exploded a brick and push pushed the wallpaper back to make it "look" ok).

When I "upgraded" to digital I refused to pay they fee as they were "forcing" me to upgrade and removing channels from the analogue service (in cable london days). Got a free install at the expense of contract extension.

When they disconnected my phone by mistake when i had to lines, I got the line rental back (a tenner) etc.

Re: Virgin Media - ways of making it cheaper?

Wish I had a mate who worked for virgin media, that mates rate sounds fantastic! Will give them a ring shortly and see what they say. The £65 quidco is what they need to beat (without me mentioning quidco - i know they have nothing to do with it directly) but think they'll struggle tbh.
