50% off Council Facilities... but theres a catch...

you have to be non working scum, or disabled, or an asylum seeker, or a lazy layabout student ( ) or live in a "managed" neighbourhood... or basically any number of things that essentially mean you dont pay tax to get it!!!

I'm so sick and tired of this countries lets make things easier for those that need it... and giving it to those that dont DESERVE it!

I go out and work for my money... i pay my tax, and i work as the slave to thier system, and i get screwed over everytime for doing so.

    Link to the catalyst: http://www.dudley.gov.uk/leisure-and...leisure-scheme

It makes my blood boil.... why do dole dossers get the benefit? fair enough, i can see the reason for disabled, but asylum seekers too? what more do they want?

    ARGHHHH

WHY DO THOSE THAT HAVE PAID FOR THE STUFF, ie the taxpayers, STILL have to pay FULL PRICE when its thier money that went into creating the damn stuff, whilst those that payed in nothing get discounts!

Its topsy turvy, and wrong... hard working people keep getting stiffed while the scroungers and layabouts get it handed to them on a silver plater (payed for by us!!)...

looking after those who pay taxes would be a 'nice' gesture. You're forgetting, that doesn't happen in Britain.

Instead, we welcome scroungers with welcome arms, doling out such benefits like clubcard points.

It too, makes my blood boil.

I could type a lot more, but I'd probably get banned for using a record number of expletives in a single forum post.

NB - I am not suggesting disabled people, students or pensioners are scroungers

Re: 50% off Council Facilities... but theres a catch...

bit harsh there mate, i was out of work for 2 years there, and it wasnt for lack of trying to get a job. I have actually changed industries and focus (now tech, no sales) in order to be working again.

Tbh, i have a gym membership i dont use much, but its not a council one, and it was a gift, but im sure theres lots of people out there dying to get into work that could use the lift and focus a good workout gives you.

as for the other things, most colleges/uni's have gyms or access to another gym with special rates, not sure why they get council discounts too.

Surely, as a Stourbridge national tho, you would be classed as an asylum seeker...... my uncle lives down that way and its a bit of a nuthouse...

Re: 50% off Council Facilities... but theres a catch...

The problem is... it might seem like something rather minor.... but i want to go swimming with a friend, lose some weight and tone up, swimming is a great way to do it.... but to go twice a week would be ~£8 (~£32 per month) now, he's moved out and he has a flat, 50% share and he doesnt get alot of spare cash, so even the cost of swimming is too much to handle...
he works hard and pays his tax, yet theres no sign of help from the government... whereas you get someone down the road living in a council house, getting everything payed for in a big house(compared to my friends 1 bed flat) money enough so they can reproduce and even more money if they do! and on top of that if they want to go use the councils facilities paid for by the taxpayer, they get money off to do so...

    Where is the justice?

the governments policy should be "Why work? we'll pay you to stay home!"

Don't get me wrong, both my brother and my father have been made reduntant in the past 10 years and my dad although being very educated and in a high managerial role had problems getting a job afterwards. both he and my brother (on seperate occassions) had to change industries and change job roles to a loss in earnings to get back on the job ladder, and it took my dad atleast 6 months to do so... the hurting part of it was that because he earned so much in his previous job, the 6 months he was of work looking he couldnt claim not one penny from the government in JSA.... so he puts money in for all of his working life... the 6 month stretch that he actually needs something back they tell him no?!

There are genuine people out there looking for jobs, i know this, but theres altogether too many people looking for free handouts, and as far as i can see, living between a couple of council estates and in an area where the unwashed seem to thrive, theyre getting them too!

The problem is JSA, and most of the benefits are useless to me, as a self employed person I keep a large pile of liquid assets (ie like cash) just in case.

So because I'm prudent, I'll never benefit from these schemes. Nice eh!

I still don't get how a mother that has a child gets her own flat, to me sheltered communal accommodation like a youth hostel, but with private bedrooms would be a much better bet for how money should be spent.

You forget that the whole point of tax is to fund services for those in society that are less well off, for whatever reason. Unfortunately what's happened is that a small but growing % of the population have taken this to me that they are entitled to going through life without putting an effort in.

Secondly, there's an ulterior motive to this, if you reduce the costs of sports facilities for the less well off, you can reduce some of the stress on the local health services.

Was about to say exactly the same thing. If spending a bit of money targeting the heaviest users of the NHS can bring about a much larger reduction in NHS costs then they'd be daft NOT to consider it.

wait, why target those on the dole?

Why not target those in work too? Plenty of people can't afford the cost of swimming pools, especially in London.

Just from an economic perspective, it makes sense for those out of work to have lower priority in the subsidisation as fit workers are more productive due to less time off on the NHS, that means more people to pay the taxes for those who gosh darn it just don't feel like working today, heaven forbid they might have to move to find work.

I think govt initiatives like this are designed with the intention of preventing poorer households from becoming as a lot of them are now, full of bone idol overweight drains on society. It is of course at the expense of the decent, tax paying house holds

Re: 50% off Council Facilities... but theres a catch...

I completely agree with your principles on this mate. I do not see why someone working hard, paying a mortgate, paying taxes etc, should have to pay more for council facilities.

I do however, see the merits in cut price schemes for people unable to work, or to get people back into work. One of the greatest issues in unemployment is the psychological battle to keep going when you have been out of work for a long period of time. Discount schemes can offset this. Personally tho i think they should have a set time or place for this when discounts are available, rather than just a free for all. Of course this would mean that employed people and unemployed people would be penalised if they wanted to go for a swim together..... hmm, im outta ideas.

ok, unemployed bums and everyone else thats not paying tax can swim for free, but only in the local river
