Top Gear - Cruise & Diaz

Just a quick question...how much of a cut of their new film's taking do I get as a BBC License payer, seeing as Top Gear hosted the trailer of their new movie?

I know in the past someone has come in and mentioned their new book or something, but a trailer straight from the film studio...? Is there anyone who has picked up on this/an explanation from the BBC over it?

Just watching it on iplayer atm. Not a fan of Cruise at all (Scientology & just how much he utterly loves himself), so I may have been a bit biased before I watched it!

It's called saving the license payer money in guest fees. Same thing always happened on the chat shows too - they could get uber celebs for relatively good prices by agreeing to plug something in return.

I thought that it's pretty obvious; they come on the show and boost the ratings even further in turn for playing the trailer.

A free plug suites me if we get to see a nice variety of famous stars in reasonably priced (but utterly crud) cars

It's not the first trailer that TG have shown. I can't remember what it was, but there's at least 1 other trailer they've shown.

Edit: Max Payne one was of them.

Yeah, as a couple of us posted in the other thread - if someone comes along and trounces the laps next series, then fair enough - the car is simply a lot faster than the old ones... but for now, the laps looked distinctly average (Diaz wasn't even in gear for half of her lap) and reeked of being sweetners.

Guests like Ranulph Fiennes are far, far better for a show like Top Gear.

Re: Top Gear - Cruise & Diaz

I can't imagine Top gear have that many problems bringing in Celebrities for reasonable costs? Surely the appeal of the show itself would bring in most celebs looking for a bit of fun? Them both coming 1st & 2nd seemed a big of a gimmic as well.

I was more surprised with Jeff Goldblum's lap, he only used third gear.

Yeah but he seems like a normal non stuck up person that seems like a generaly nice, a bit weird! But nice. He can get away with a good lap in 3rd gear

They have also plugged celeb books before as well. TG is a world wide broadcast show, so it does get a lot of publicity.

They plugged Alistair Campbell's book, which I thought was well out of order. Even retired political asshats shouldn't get free airtime.

Re: Top Gear - Cruise & Diaz

I'm pretty convinced that weight is as important as skill in the timed laps, 10kg is worth a second a lap in a 700hp F1 car, so I'm guessing it's a bit more than that in a KIA. I'll wait for JK and Cowell to have a go before passing final judgement on whether TG was being a bit generous, I'll admit I was a bit surprised at the times.

I was expecting Clarkson and the worlds most famous Scientologist being in a room together to end with fireworks tbh. Was obviously on his best behaviour, shame...

Much less actually. An F1 car is far lighter than a Kia, so 10kg is a bigger difference. Secondly F1 cars pull 5G of cornering and braking forces, so that 10kg is effectively 50kg in terms of the forces acting upon it. The Kia can probably scrape 0.5G?
