    Evil plants....

    http://www.iomtoday.co.im/news/Weedi...n-A.6478693.jp

Alan Blythe is now warning others of the horrors of hogweed after a spot of weeding in his garden ended up with him being admitted to A&E as his arm ballooned to twice its normal size.
It's like a Triffid, but it doesn't move about, and it's more common than you'd think... nasty nasty stuff.

Good of them to include a picture of the weed so we know to take care with it.

    Re: Evil plants....

if you look at the gallery link - there is a picture. It's basically a massive version of Cow Parsley, which is the native Hogweed and not toxic.

    Re: Evil plants....

I had to stop my wife's cousin from pulling down a Giant Hogweed a few years ago- my parents always told me they were dangerous.

But I didn't know that normal hogweed was a problem?

Edit: I visited my Grandad about 18 months ago, while he was on the decline, but before he went properly senile (he's in a home now ). I saw what looked like a Giant Hogweed growing in his veg garden, and promptly armed myself with a fork and some thick gloves. I dug up the offending plant, and it turned out to be.... a parsnip.

The native hogweed isn't a problem unless you're a cow....

Were you trying to eat it, or dig it up?

(yes, I know which kind of fork you meant, but it still reads funny)

They have them in Wisley, but they are planted on an island where no-one will normally come into contact with them.
