If the shopkeeper in the linked article is anything to go by, future generations have already forgotten.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

Was down at Bournemouth airport yesterday and as i was just leaving the Lancaster and a Spitfire flew over before circling to land.

Couldn't help but stand and watch, remembering the people who put the lives on the line.

    Re: The worlds greatest understatement?

I'm not been funny here, but it will come to a point where it will just be a bit of history, I am fairly young myself, but I feel I have a good enough understanding of what went on to have an enormous amount of respect for the people who fought the war(s).

But there were plenty of wars before that granted maybe not as big, but it's not like any of us have remembrance days for those wars.

    Re: The worlds greatest understatement?

Indeed, memories will become history. But it shouldn't be forgotten that people fought and died, were persecuted or executed. 'Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.'
