Idiots get help for been stupid.

    http://www.metro.co.uk/news/838431-n...al-flight-home

So apparently these newly weds, who decided that they didn't need that £7.50 travel insurance cost couldn't afford the medical flight home.

I can't help but think they got what they had coming, all airlines and tour operators remind you about travel insurance and provide helpful commisionised links if you don't have it.

They choose not to, reap what you sow and all that.

imagine if they have used a card which gets airmiles as well....

I can see where theanimus is coming from though. It's not as if £7.50 is THAT much at all in the general scheme of things.

How did she fall off the balcony anyway? Short of throwing herself over I don't see how she could have done it.

I think its a tragic thing to happen to a young couple on their honey moon where they are expecting things to head of in one direction by instead life throws them a curve ball. Many of the hopes they had will now not happen. I to not feel they are idiots, I feel very sad for them.

Re: Idiots get help for been stupid.

Frankly it shouldn't be allowed to be an optional extra it should be included in the cost of the holiday.

You do have to be fairly thick not to bother with travel insurance though - my sympathy for unfortunate events does wain when high levels of stupidity are invloved.

I have to agree, At such little cost for travel insurance why didn't they get it? I always get insurance because it not only covers medical problems but, other things too like if you have you wallet stolen etc.

I do feel sorry for them but, they are not the first to be in this situation and I've no doubt they won't be the last either!

Re: Idiots get help for been stupid.

They were cheap and short sighted so now they’re paying for it. Hard lesson learned I guess/hope. The insurance companies could use this for marketing but that would be crass I guess.

A very close friend and one of the two people I considered to be my best man injured himself badly while skiing a week before I got married. He’s a quadriplegic now so I have a lot of sympathy for such accidents. However, the cost should not be covered by the State. At least my friend was smart enough to have income and critical illness cover. Still a monumentally life changing event but a few less things to worry about.

Everyone should have travel insurance (unless you never go overseas), critical illness plus death cover, and probably income protection as well.

I think as mentioned above, it should be an opt-out service when it comes too travel insurance, more so when £7.50 is little more than the price of two pints (outside the capital).
