Re: Should "taliban" video game be allowed

Yeah at the hands of nato forces I'm sure children have lost fathers and wives and have lost husbands. I think banning this would be ridiculous and a disgrace to freedom of expression especially when it's part of a much larger game. Again this is some clueless idiot trying to be overly politically correct when he doesn't have any idea what the game is about. A shameful way to get publicity really and I get really cheesed off everytime someone like him decides to run his mouth. Why doesn't he go pick on war movies or rap music?

Re: Should "taliban" video game be allowed

So if we change it to the red team and the blue team it would be fine?

Diddily right off, it's being historically accurate FFS

It's like changing WWII games into making it a draw... At the end of the day that's history and i'd rather not have things misrepresented...

there is obviously no way this should be banned and i agree with raxer121 that those comments were flawed but you can't deny its distasteful in this country - just as a rape scene on TV is - that's life unfortunately

Re: Should "taliban" video game be allowed

yeah i dont see what hes blubbering on about to be honest. Seems to me he saw an opportunity to get his face on the news and he took it. Its an easy 'look at me im really patriotic' thing as far as im concerned. I struggle to believe he can be so completely blind that he would miss how hypocritical his comments are.

I pre-ordered the game and im quite looking forward to checking it out. I don't really care about the fact its a bit sketchy and around the edges of political correctness in places, most games are nowerdays. Look at MW2 and the whole terrorist thing... just the next in a line of controversial game issues that will in reality do nothing but boost game sales.

Re: Should "taliban" video game be allowed

Maybe he's been slipped a few to try and promote the game?

Nothing to discuss really - if we don't want people to be able to play bad guys in games then we're going to have to ban cops and robbers :/

It's a ridiculous argument. Just another MP blathering on about something he doesn't have a clue about. It's like having WWII games with no Germans cause they're our "friends" these days.

Re: Should "taliban" video game be allowed

I find it distasteful, I think the phrase "too soon", sums up my opinion, but that's free speech for you. You don't have the right not to be offended, I wish people, especially governments would remember that or even just, I don't know; the guy in charge of organising the people whose; blood, lives and pain our freedom of speech is bought with.

If you start banning everything you don't like, you're a fascist and it was only a couple of generations ago, millions died including hundreds of thousands of British troops and civilians to STOP fascism. Our Defence Secretary is aware of this right?

What an absolute gaping see you next Tuesday. I'm far more offended by this idiot than I am by EA trying to be edgey and get some easy publicity.

Re: Should "taliban" video game be allowed

I think the quote near the end of the article sums it up

"We give gamers the opportunity to play both sides. Most of us have been doing this since we were seven: someone plays the cop, someone must be robber.

"In Medal of Honor multiplayer, someone's got to be the Taliban."
Of course we've been doing this for years in other games - mainly games based around the world wars. I think the only real difference here is the fact that this war is still happening; because of that some people will think it is offensive.

We should worry more about British troops being killed in the real world, rather than in a virtual world !

Re: Should "taliban" video game be allowed

It's just Modern Warfare 2 all over again :\. (The airport scene)

If the game's accurate and actually shows what happens over there then this game should definitely be allowed in shops, it'll give people an in-sight into what it's like to fight against the Taliban and open people's minds to the world more.

Also, this is an 18+ Certificate, right? Where's the problem then?

so what about counter strike? you can play as terrorists there? why isnt that banned?

but seriously, if we start banning stuff that someone doesnt like then what will we have left? since something is always offending someone else no matter what it is

Re: Should "taliban" video game be allowed

If Dr Fox had said this was in poor taste, I'd be inclined to agree with him. But when he calls for it to be banned, it inclines me more to go out and buy it. Dr Fox, it's a game for pities sake. Get over it.

    And as for ....
Dr Fox said: "It's shocking that someone would think it acceptable to recreate the acts of the Taliban. At the hands of the Taliban, children have lost fathers and wives have lost husbands.
.... oh and no innocent Iraqi or Afghan families have lost kids or fathers as a result of Coalition action, eh? Don't you have any real work to do, Liam?
