    calculators..

Right well i start uni in 2 weeks so been getting stuff together, on the checklist it says a graphic calculator is needed. They recommend a TI-83, my dad had to use a TI calculator for Open University but his is the TI-80 (thats the only one they said to use). So i was wondering if anyone had a clue as to whats different between them and if i should buy the 83 or stick with the 80 cause they arent cheap unless i get it second hand which is ~£40.

Any helps appreciated as im lost, all i see is a few MHz in processor and no change in a colour screen or anything.

    Re: calculators..

Use the TI-80 and see how you get on?

If there are actually functions you are missing, then you can always buy a 83 later. However I suspect they have said get a 83 because that is the current model in the range, not because you actually need that particular model.

    Re: calculators..

Yeah i had a look over and it seems me and my dad missed it saying to get the TI-83 if you dont already have a graphics calculator . The TI-83 has been superseded i just guess they prefer to stick to one model and be able to use it effectively.

Thanks for the response though .

    Re: calculators..

You have to wonder why there isn't an application for modern smart phones to fulfil all the functions of a graphics calculator (and not just the half hearted attempts).

Then again, trying to take one into an exam may prove tricky

I have a TI-83 Plus and it's the business. Not used any other models so don't know how to compare.
