Surely, even though it was my mistake, if an account holder sees an amount mistakenly put into their account but then chooses to keep it, that is a criminal offence. /

Nope. It's completely the responsibility of the person making the transfer to get the correct details.

For larger / important transactions I always set-up the details and test using a nominal amount (e.g £10). Once receipt is confirmed I setup the main transfer/s.
