IrDA from fone to pc and vice versa

right, i have my IR dongle whatsit, and my 7210 and my E700... they connect and a little bubble comes up on my pc to say it's connected, but when i try to send a pic from my oc to my fone it doesnt wanna know (either fone that is!) and i cant find a way of sending pics from my fone to my puter either! grrrr

All that came with the dongley thingy was a drivers CD and that's it (dint have any other software on it). There's no sign of a website address for it either, it doesnt actually have a brand name.

So if anyone can help and stop me going out of my mind, that'd be great, ta

Well you're not gonna have much fun transferring specialised stuff to a phone without some.

Don't ask me what software for those phones though

For the nokia phone, you need to get the nokia data suite. I's freely available from their website, I'm guessing the samsung will have some similar software

    lol @ Harry Potter ringtone...

    What brand dongle is it?
I take it your not moving your phone whilst in transmission?
Your infra-red has been activated on your phone hasn't it?

An after thought here.. aren't phones just IR and not IrDa ?

e.g. The All-In-One TV Remotes dont work with NTL cable TV because the NTL box is IrDa but the remote is IR...

Try slowing down the speed of the Infra-Red port on the PC (even if its a dongle) as too fast a speed can cause it to drop connection..... You should find this in device manager. Lower the speed by one setting at a time and see if it helps even if it means going way down to the lowest setting.

Aye, the EasyStudio software's what you need. Why Samsung don't include in in the box.... maybe cos the networks want us all to waste money sending MMS. The one thing Sony Ericcson have going for them is the ease of use with a PC.

    right, update.

I managed to get my 7210 connected to my pc via a very shaky IR connection... using the nokia pc suite software, however i still dunno how to get pics and ringtones OFF the fone. It's easy enough to put them ON there but getting them off seems to be a challenge....

As for my samsun e700 and easy studio... easy my a**! the fone connects using IR but the samsung software doesnt pick it up! *sigh* this is becoming quite a headache :/

and before i get any "RTFM" replies, i have, i've read all the help files n everyfink but cant make head nor tail of it all :/

That's funny, I've managed to get four different laptops, all customer-supplied so definitely not properly configured or up-to-date, working with EasyStudio within minutes. Same with the nokia suite. Sounds like your IRDA dongle jobby is dodgy. Make sure Windows shows a link before you run the software, and that you assign the right virtual com port to the Nokia software.
