Can't you just turn up in the morning and take a number and wait in a queue?

If it was some kind of emergency yeah maybe but seeing as it wasnt i had to go to work then fit it around that.

Wow, I feel pretty lucky my local surgery I can call up and speak to someone that's there. Book an appointment (never failed to get one when I needed) with the added advantage that they have early opening hours a few days a week so I can have an appointment at 7.30am and be at work without any time off.
