    7dayshop.com - VAT?

    Hi,

Has anyone ordered a digital camera from 7dayshop.com before?

I have read nasty reports of having to pay Customs charges if its over £18.

I placed a £250 order a while ago, still haven't seen it, but is still being 'processed'. Is it likely I will have to pay customs, and how much do you think?

I can't even cancel the order as it has been processed and they've charged me

I wouldn't have thought you'd have to pay customs charges because Guernsey is still classed as being part of the UK?

    Can anyone clarify this?

On a number of reviews people have warned that the company does not charge for VAT because they are in guernsey but that HM Customs will. If I only I had read a few more reviews before I bought...

According to their website - 'If your delivery address is outside of Guernsey you may be subject to duties/taxes/charges which may be levied once the package/s reach the delivery destination. Any such charges must be bourne by you. We have no control over these charges and we cannot predict what they might be.'

I read on these boards on a topic about 7dayshop.com prices that guernsey was in the UK and Customs wouldn't apply so I didn't worry about it before I placed my order.

play.com don't charge VAT on orders even when they do reach the UK. If 7dayshop do then they should've been clearer on this. Fortunately it costs us 75p to get an order from then Don't even know why :/

You don't have to pay VAT on anything under £18. Tempted to buy a camera (Fuji A340) from them as their prices are cheap (because they don't charge VAT), although about the same price as a VAT-Inclusive model from the UK. As most orders from play are under £18, this is why you don't get charged VAT, although have ordered a few games from there for £29.99 and never been charged.

If you just took the risk and paid VAT at the end, you can't complain, but you have to pay customs £10 for their trouble, and RoyalMail £10 for their trouble, plus pay the original VAT on the full retail price (so if its cheaper than elsewhere, the VAT will be charged for the retail price, not the price you paid).

I'd be interested to see how you get on - I think most orders will probably get away with being chased by HM-C&E, but if I was one of those who got charged I would wish I bought elsewhere.
