Best £14.99 I've spent so far...

Picked up, purely on impulse, a great little gizmo today.

Basically, its an extension you run off the second RF socket out the back of your Sky digi box.

You have to buy a load of coax to run the cable to wherever the second set is, but then you can watch Sky on that set too. Of course, being an extension, you can only view whatever channel the Sky box is running on the main TV, but its still cool...

The coolest feature though is the remote control.. You use your normal Sky remote, but to do this on the second TV theres a little infared reciever which is wired into a little box of tricks you plug into the back of the telly. This sends the remote signals back to the Sky box ALONG the coax cable!

You get full function as if you were sitting in the lounge... you can order and view movies, play the games... the whole lot... all on a second telly in a totally different room!

Top stuff!!

there is a downside now though. I now no longer have the excuse that I want to finish watching something on telly meaning I cant go up to bed just yet... and then sneak off and go flying in IL2.... damn!

Howard, nah, the reciever for the remote looks like a very small PC mouse... about 2" long, tops.

The other good thing about it is it also send the five terrestrial channels too, either through Sky or on the normal RF channels... boosted signal as well...

i got something like that but it cost £150 (and this was when this stuff was comeing out) , was kick ass to have sky up in my bed room, it was soem philps one

any reason why this would not work with NTL digital?

Dunno, as the one I have is a Sky product, it might be worth giving them a ring and checking.

anyone know if this will work on a sony freeview box?
i think it might because the box has an rf out - but dont know if it will only recognise the sky remotes.

or does anyone know of anything similar to work with freeview

There are kits, which iirc, work wirelessly. They're somewhere around the £40 mark and work slightly diiferently by using a throughput on the scart socket. This is transmitted to a reciever plugged into the second set. The remote works by transmitting the remote signal back to a little plastic thingy that you have to stick over the remote reciever on the Sky/freeview box.

My mum has one... tbh, they're a pain to set up, but they do work with any system.

You can get wireless video senders.

I'm using one at the moment to feed my Sky+ into the spare bedroom where I have moved my widescreen whilst i'm decorating my bedroom.

You dont get a crystal clear picture but more than adequate as a compromise.

At comet we sale a Philips one for around the £80 mark. This can relay the IR signal aswell. You plug the transmitter into a scart output and the receiver into the scart on your tv.

Yeah, the wieless video senders are ok, my mum has one, but as you say, the image and sound quality aren't as good. You can get ones that have a remote control function too... where at the base TV end they have a small transmitter that you place partially over the remote reciever for the bit of kit you want to control... only works with ONE bit of kit though... so you can't control the video or telly or DVD etc... just the one thing like the Sky box.
