    favourite phone?

Just thought this up while commenting on Angus' P900 thread http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=20022

Personally I'd have to say my unlocked XDA (so I could use it with my Vodafone Singlepoint contract). And my Nokia 9210....I wrote about 20,000 words of my novel *cough* on that thing so think it's the best thing since sliced N-Gage....

I would say SonyEricsson T610 and T630, the different between them isn't that much..the display on the T630 it's a bit better in sunlight though..and then you got the price too Which of course it's different!

Alright, I'll just butt in at this point and try to clarify the reason for the post.

I'm sure you're all fanboys of whichever phone you've currently got stuffed down your pants 'cause knowing the member's of this place, you probably researched the ass out of the product before you bought it, but I wasn't really going for the latest and greatest of phones...

Maybe I've had too many phones (which working out per year is pretty good since I only got my first in 2001), but I get a little misty thinking about some of the models I've had in the past and was wondering if I was a freak or if anyone else felt the same.

(Alright, I know I'm a freak, but so are you all 8P )

So was it your first Nokia, with that wonderful GUI, or perhaps that phone from the Matrix that you thought was sooooo cool...come on, spill it...

May you rest in peace, humble servants of the telecommunication age...

I must say most of the Sony Ericsson product range is good at the moment. I use a Z600 myself. I can admit that the camera is really really crappy, but I see cameras on mobile phones as a funny bonus, not a tool for award winning photos

Recommendations as of today would be T610/T630, Z600 and P900... All have their own benefits

Even though my favourite phone, ever, was my Ericsson R310s. I threw that poor thing into stonewalls, people, cars, everything really. For 1 and a half year, then it started freaking out. It could take anything really, even water (not too deep though). And as of size/weight... I didn't mind those 170g in my pocket. Though if I would've had it today I guess the lack of colour screen, T9, WAP, GPRS, bluetooth... would freak me out instead. But a few years ago, I couldn't think of a better phone.
Light travels faster than sound. Is this why some people appear bright until you hear them speak?

Ive owned 2 phones - the first was a student freebie and was that illmannered philips drive-u-nutz phone that sung "Puppy Power" everytime you recieved a message.

Then I got a Nokia 3310 - still have it, almost 4 years now and it's been through a lot - repeated drop-kicks, numerous droppings and err throws . . .even set it on fire (OK, so it's been through a lot when Ive had a few jars), but it's still working - barely.

In the end, it does the job (the single button for answering calls and hanging up (and everything else) is great, I cant use this red/green button thing coz Im eppin colour blind), though the lack of memory bothers me and since the phone is now abit randomly erratic, Im going for either a 6600 or 6230 - which will hopefully last me another 4 years!

I still have a 5210 which is fairly old now. But as I don't want to go on contract, I really can't justify myself spending >£200 on a phone I really like (Sony Ericsson T630 or Nokia 6230). Maybe something like the 6610i which is only £160.

Those 3 are my favourites at the moment

In the end all they do is make calls and send texts, and that's all I use my phone for, so I'm not as keen as some of you to upgrade

I'd rather not be tied down to a contract though Russ. PAYG is fine for me.

I've been using mobile phones since before a fair percentage of HEXUS users were born (mid '80s), and while I won't bother saying what the first one cost, it was definitely a price!

In all that time I've had, I think, 5 handsets, and the first three were analog. My current set is a Motorola Timeport, and I've had it about 4 years. I don't change phone until the existing one breaks down, or a new one comes out with some feature I need on it. I bought the Motorola because it's tri-band and I wanted something that worked in the US as, at that time, I was going there 5 or 6 times a year, for up to a month at a time.

My criteria for a phone are :-

    - does it perform well?
    - is it reasonably small and light?
    - is it tri-band?

Personally, I want phone for exactly two things: making phone calls and receiving phone calls.

I don't want a built-in camera, I don't want built-in games, I don't give a stuff about ringtones or logos, I think (for my purposes) WAP is crap, and I've sent a total of about 10 text messages (8 of which were just playing with it). Of the text messages I've received, about 80% (or more) were junk and if I could block all txt's completely, I would. I don't even want the fancy services network providers tend to enable for you (like answerphone).

All I want is a phone. Maybe this makes me an old fart, but a phone is a tool to me, not a toy. So no, I'm not at all nostalgic about any phone. While it does what I need, I won't change it. When it doesn't, I'll get one that does. I'm about as nostalgic for or fashion conscious of any phone as I am with my loo brush which, I have to say, is not very much at all
