    scary!

just got home from a trip to hertfordshire for a meeting

halfway home driving along the M4 in a brand new shiny hire car, not going particularly fast cos it was a nice day & i took some CDs with me - a loose chipping got...well...loose, and hit my windscreen

scared the beejesus out of me, and left a nice crack in the windscreen, which started off quite small but slowly started growing - ended up approx 9 inches by the time i got back to cardiff (by which time i was driving at the speed of an asthmatic snail trying to avoid making it worse)

i'm gonna be soooo not popular tomorrow when i tell my boss her budget is gonna be stung for a replacement windscreen by the hire co ops:

anyone know of any IT training jobs going in south wales perchance??

Bad luck mate. Not much you could have done about it though. Surely you'll only have to pay the excess on the hire car? It was only about £50 when I hired a car a few years ago.

The hire company will just have to pay the excess, and I don't think your boss will have to pay anything, cos its not really your fault. I hate it when things hit the screen though, its really scary!

Nearly s#*t myself when i had a pigeon hit the top of the screen, head on and I was doing about 60mph. It impacted tight on the top, sort of half on the screen half on the roof.

A lot of times windscreen damage is covered without excess. You may get lucky.

dunno what excess (if any) there is as yet, but no bother at work - the company cars dept didn't bat an eyelid when i told them, which made me a bit happier tbh
