Which Screw driver?

Sounds like a stupid question but when it was really windy here last month a big plastic sheet blew from my neighbours where a house is being built and caught around our outside light. The wind then ripped the light off the wall.

I have now got a replacement light but the mounting screws from the old one are still in the wall. Problem is they have a square in the middle, instead of the usual flathead, allen etc. I dont have a square headed screw driver. I have tried plyers etc to get it free but cant get it to budge.

What screw driver should I get? I havent had any luck searching local diy stores etc.

If you can't find the right one, a flat headed screwdriver across the diagonals should grip.

pop down the sunday market and pick up a security bit set, they usually have the square drives in them.

No Dremel? What about a junior hack saw, that would do it.

I got it ages ago and while it makes a terrible general purpose screw driver (there is nothing like proper individual drivers rather than a multi you need to constantly change the tip with) it does open up just about anything you can think of. Some of the tips are tiny too, so mobile phones pose no problem either.

You can also pick up a security bit set from screw fix for fairly cheap. Excellent to have one in the house anyway

I LOVE those screws I use them all the time to annoy people It's a standard security bit though - shouldn't be too hard to find.

I love any screw that isn't a flat head. What a pain in the neck those are!!

Phillips are only slightly better, really only good if they have the extra little slots off set by 45deg (are they posi-drive or something like that?). Hex, star, square, anything that completely captures the head of the driver so they don't pop out is best
