My emailer est mort. It polled for its final emails an hour ago and is now - well, a phone.
Scoff if you will but I always hoped I'd live to see the day I could use its future-ready smart card slot.
RIP old buddy.

I remember selling these things at The Link, crappy things they were too Yours must have had a good innings!
Like a number af Alan Michael Sugar TRADing stuff, it was innovative and in some ways ahead of its time, but overtaken by events. The Amstrad PC was pretty nifty with the (IIRC) GEM operating system, and the Amstrad amplifiers of my youth were cheap and accessable (although the build quality was abysmal, and the sound quality not much better - but hey, good enough for Led Zepplin!
But that is a good innings for the em@iler!

A good innings indeed, & it'll always have a home here As to crappy, it had more useful functions than most of The Apprentices..
A very good summary & not a bad epitaph.
Got one of those here somewhere as wellThe Amstrad PC was pretty nifty with the (IIRC) GEM operating system

1. read
2. answer if necessary, giving your 21st century email address so they can contact you again.
either that or run to cash converters and get another em@iler or whatever the hell they are called that thankfully didn't catch on. thanking the greater power that Apple didn't make it because then we would all be stuffed calling emails Em@ils forever more.

no, no - i failed to explain. it's not my em@iler that is dead ie broken - the plug has been pulled on the whole Amserve em@il service. hence the unit can't collect. i assumed that it would all come to a synchronised end & only went to the webmail out of curiosity, & found it still going & taking incoming em@ils (maybe an overlap til the final utter cutoff). People have normal em@il addresses for me already - there were just reasons why my old ones were handy.
So it's not just Behemoth's that's destined for the tip.
/edit. and the bereavement has distracted me from noticing I've passed 2,000 posts - I could have had a party. And here's me with no BixMix in the house.

To be fair when I said we'd taken one down the tip I meant myself and a friend as it was his e-mailer, I've never owned one and personally never really saw any need to have one. I could see why people would want them just to send e-mails and so on if they didn't require a full on PC with full on internet.
