MOD Warehousing: watch the news today

Today the antiquated 1980's IT infrastructure and the literealy hundreds of different software packages that fail to deliver the right MOD item to the right soldier in thestre... come to the front.

Radio 4 lead with it as I awoke.. and it's a sad state of affairs.

Warehouses of immense size, loaded with hardware, engines, parts etc... that no one has a good handle on... and so people in Afghan and Libya needing stuff they can't get.

    Keep your ears open...

One of the problems with Governmental IT systems is that they tend to lag behind the private sector because the relevant security certifications tend to take a while - that said running something from the 80's probably isn't the best , no doubt someone had a *great* contract to support that ( not that I'm suggesting that private It contractors ride the Public Sector IT gravy train... no wait that's exactly what I'm saying. )

It kind of leans towards the thrust of this story from the start of the week, which includes statements like:
The public administration committee said an "obscene amount of public money" was being wasted on IT.
    and
... the public administration committee recommends that departments across Whitehall use more small and medium-sized IT suppliers to increase competition and bring down prices
It might just be a good time to be starting IT related businesses... now I just need to find out how to get in on the tendering processes

Government IT projects are a joke that's not even funny.

After watching Top Gear last night, and seeing the guys that have been maimed for life, quite drastically, makes me wonder if the right equipment would have saved some of them from these horrors
