    Unhappy Friday Job Blues....

    I tell you the Tech Job industry now is really getting stupid, I fear for my job everyday now with the likes of this hitting the news... NTL / IBM I work for a massive company and I truely don't want to just become a simple statistic. Its things like this that makes a friday mood disappear as you sober to the thought you could be next

    No folks you got me wrong, I am not knocking the fact I have a job nor am I saying look at me ain't I lucky, what I was meaning was I am siding with all those folk who would like my sort of job, I know loads of peeps here want tech jobs etc I was merely trying to say its getting harder and harder to get jobs now-a-days and with the current market for outsourcing it means every day I am in my job I feel as if I am about to lose it, but I am greatful for having it, there is no doubt on that, and if I could get you all jobs I would!

    I guess I either caught people on a bad moment or more likely did not explain myself properly, have had a habit of that lately....

    Ref Job: Senior Tech support for all windows platforms and propriatory software created for our customers, around 4,500 customers at the moment.

    <Unpopular view to follow>

    Support roles on software, where you don't need to have real knowledge are jobs that are at risk sadly, if you don't have the sort of knowledge that really makes you indespencable, if its something that you can get someone off the street and train up, You are and will be increasingly in danger of losing you job.

    How many people know windows, or can read from a scripted debug routine to help find out the problem?.

    How many support engines do you need with automated system monitoring and automatic resolution with SNMP protocols increasingly used with hardware and software systems.

    <unpopular view over>

    I say this because if you are aware of this you can take steps to ensure you are safer from this. I'm happier because i'm in a niche development market and i feel i've got appreciation of the industry i'm in.

    I'm also a developer and my jobs are at risk too, from cheap developers from India too, but then you are very unlikely to find that all development roles are outsourced, sure big companies follow this trend but smaller ones can't take this sort of risk.

    My belief is that in the future as we go through and make more and more old economies out of business new ones come and replace them, i mean this has happened before.

    Coal Mines, Cotton mills to name just two that have disappeared from existance.
    To replace them call centres etc, which is going through british systems being undercut, The get migrated to India, and my belief will then get totally replaced by automated voice recognition systems.

    Its a global economy boys and girls, money to be made, jobs to be had, all it needs is a bit of dedication and some hard work to get it.

    Look at what David has achieved with Hexus for example
