    I don't disagree with the 'idea', but I also know its political bull**** and no one else deserving will have theirs removed.

    True. He might not have deserved it a knighthood in the first place, but he is certainly being set up as the scapegoat to divert attention from others who are equally culpable. But I expect a certain ex-prime minister will still be offered a seat in the House of Lords when he ceases to be an MP.     Removing it = good idea. Why did it take 4 years?

    The timing of the announcement is suspicious. Though I'd guess the wheels of this sort of thing grind exceedingly slowly.
