Engagement Rings – Ladies advice wanted please!

Engagement Rings – Ladies advice wanted please!

Hi it’s me and my good ladies anniversary on the 17th July and I’m looking to propose, I don’t have a lot of money and have been selling and raising cash left right and centre! I think I have got about £350 to play with, I guess that is fairly cheap but it’s the best I can do. So my questions are!!

What high street Jewellers are classed as ‘descent and respectable places’?

What high street jewellers should I avoid like the plague?

She does not like gold and has asked for silver in the past, so will white gold or platinum be suitable replacement to silver?

    Any other tips?

does diamonds, but you can design what you want to fit your budget.

I don't think it matters where you get it from as long as it's a nice one!

The larger chains that are good are H samuel, beaverbrooks, ernest jones. BUT try the small independent places that do second hand ones, you can occasionally get a good deal!

Well done you! Make it special...

White gold is a good idea, but platinum is very expensive... so you won't get as much. A diamond would be nice, so a simple design with a bigger diamond would be a winner for me!!!

    Hope this helps!

    ooooooooooh all excited for ya

White gold would be nice, i want white gold and like your gf ask tumble to get me silver/white gold if he ever wants to get me something cos i dont like yellow gold either.

This might be lynni being a snob, but i wouldnt go to Index or Argos!! H samual's does nice jewelary though and the Beaverbrooks in liverpool have had a nice selection of silver/white gold rings for under £600

How you plannin on asking her?

I'd steer clear of the big names like samuels, goldsmiths etc.

Their markup is incredible (we've got a Goldsmiths factory outlet in Swindon).

If you're up in Birmingham at all the Jewelry quarter is quite a competitive place from what I've heard, although they don't really have a very good web presence if you're looking to buy online.

Hope that helps, and good luck for the 17th

Being the romantic soul that I am, I let my wife choose her own engagement ring. My proposal was somewhat...er...impromptu (I.E. alcohol fuelled). Diamonds were too expensive- neither she nor I could tell the difference with a Cubic Zirconia anyway.

The best place in the world to buy jewelry is Gibraltar- we got both our wedding rings from there for £56. If you've got £350, get a flight over there, buy a ring for half what you normally would, and job's a good 'un.

Seriously though, the high street chains do have a massive markup. If you can find an independent place you're likely to get a better deal there, and they'll be more likely to accept a bit of haggling too.....

GL mate, hope it goes well. I didn't find the proposing too scary- as I said, I was drunk. The really frightening bit was telling my Mum!

Come to think of it, I didn't either.

I know his plans for proposing to someone though, so if he ever tells me we're off to rome for a weekend, i'd get all silly!

ho hum, 12 months... just did that one... doesn't even want to move in with me.

GL for the 17th dude... and I'll have you if your gf knocks you back! (and my bf mysteriously passes away!)

i've always wondered - rather morbidly perhaps - what happens when a guy proposes [or indeed a girl, cause thats not unheard of] and gets turned down.
    relationship over? struggles on?
