Also that may be the only pub for miles! What would the locals do if that guy smashed it up?

Its not theirs the rampant horse and pint and pot about 10 mins walk in each direction, I happen to live 20 mins walk if that from the pub in question lol. Get my hair cut right next to it, pretty sure this happened last year, must of just been sorted for the video to be released.

Exactly that. He had been forced out of the pub, and force had been used to disarm, restrain and detain him. Anything after that was disproportionate, and while he should (and has been) punished, that punishment must be viaq due process, not extra-judicial punishment.

Although the reaction of the mob, especially if they had also been dring, is not really surprising.

He is a criminal. He has been convicted.

The death penalty has been abolished in this country, although that is another subject completely.

But if the mob had killed him, it would have been murder, and as he had been disarmed, self defence would probably not have been a valid defence.

Not necessarily. I simply think that if we are going to bother having a court system, then we should let the punishment should be dealt by the court, not the mob. I've said it before, that the UK might benefit from implementing this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caning_in_Singapore.

On a related note, while it's good to see a 'mob' prepared to defend themselves, watching four police officers who you thought were your friends, running away when you are being attacked is more disappointing.
