    Birthday Treat

I've booked Phantom tickets for my wife for w/e 21st April, but because it's London Marathon weekend, all the hotels are either fully booked, or massively overpriced. I then thought I'd look at getting on the train for a surprise trip to Brighton, but this is hugely expensive as well (any idea what's going on that weekend?). Anyone got any ideas for a nice place to visit that you can get to after a show (matinee, so c4.30 finish)?

High speed train to Canterbury takes an hour or so from King's Cross - about the same as London Bridge or Victoria down to Brighton. There's the cathedral to look around, boat trips/tours (weather permitting), various museums etc.
