Google project glass - would you?

Would you be first in line for one of these ?

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/04...project_glass/

Part of me really likes the idea, but as someone who refuses to walk around with a Bluetooth headset I'm not sure I would ever be able to bring myself to wear something like this.

    For the navigation, WANT!

For being a douche and pausing while I check in at some dodgy coffee van, DO NOT WANT!

    Way too distracting IMO

Even walking they could cause real issues by suddenly grabbing your focus while walking down stairs or something.

And I shudder to think how badly it could go if you were riding a bike or driving a car wearing them.

at least you wouldn't be looking in your lap sending a text.

I have Bluetooth hands free in my car that feeds out of my car speakers and a voice activated app that reads and sends messages if I need to

I wouldn't be first in line. I wouldn't be last in line, either. I wouldn't even be in the line.

The chances of me carrying a device, glasses or otherwise, that fed back (or even risked feeding back) a continuous stream of GPS data, to a company like Google, are exactly zero, nil, nowt, nada, bupkiss, sweet FA. Their <bleep>ing adverts are enough of a pain when I maintain a degree of anonymity (and I do, as far as possible within reason) on a simple search, and I categorically am NOT giving them a wealth of GPS data on my location, or movements. It is simply not going to happen.

Wouldn't touch these from Google, would consider a glasses mounted HUD though.

Heck, even if it needed a cable (akin to headphones), a pair of glasses that can provide a useful HUD such as navigation, would be invaluable (and extremely lucrative to the military too)

Re: Google project glass - would you?

No. I never want my reality to be boring enough that it requires augmenting, on the day it is looking even more of a tool than usual probably won't help either. Nor do I enjoy the idea of Minority Report style targeted adverts leaping out at me everywhere.

As for the navigation features in my opinion people are already too reliant on sat nav's to go everywhere.. In a city centre I don't know; I can see it being useful but I can also plan where I'm going or speak to someone once nearby and ask for directions, granted they might mug me, stab me up and post my innards to the Daily Mail while foxes eat my children but, they might also be nice and helpful...

Of course that is a gamble, but walking around Birmingham at night looking for a bar dressed like a member of a boarding party would be kind of a sure thing

    Google Glasses!

Anyone from the Bristol meet (Steve I'm looking at you) all those years ago remember me speaking about my idea?

I knew I should have done something about it at the time!

I was inspired on the flight down to Gatwick, I thought it would be awesome to have a pair of glasses that would give you an overlay with points of interest or even just place names as you were flying over the country. I always wonder just what I can see out of the window.

Well that would be a hardened case of advertising wouldn't it ?

I was listening to the radio article on Radio 2 on the way home to Cornwall about these last night and thought hmm they do sound interesting, but I don't think it's something I'd want, and certainly not all that advertising in my face.

Advertising is bad enough now online, at least with my browser etc if i want to I can run an app to hide it all, but I'd hate to have it in my face especially if I was driving and thenbang I get hit with some adverts, you could squash someones kid.

Great idea though and the idea of the tech I love, just not happy its a tech that google of got there hands on

Do people really think you'd be allowed to wear these while driving?
If you were, do you really think adverts would be allowed to "pop out" and block your vision, forcing you to kill a child?
    Come on.

    It's 4.98*
