Id go with that, cheap battery cases shouldnt be hard to get hold of, unless its a particularly unusual battery.
Either have 2 sets and colour them, as Lucio says, or put a bit of card inside, red on one side, green the other, and flip it as required.

Those strip things don't really work for anything but alkalines anyway, they rely on the voltage droop as they're used up - NiMH's, especially the LSD kind, have a relatively flat discharge curve. And unless the tester applies a fair amount of load to the battery, it's useless anyway as open-circuit voltage tells very little about state of charge - you can have a battery (seen this a few times with old but unused batteries) which 'tests' OK and has about 1.5v OC voltage, but put any sort of load on it and it bottoms out.
Anyway, most camera batteries I've used have that little slider/tag thing on them?
