    Ebuyer

I have been hearing some very mixed opinions about ebuyer.
    Kinda like marmite,
You either love it or you hate it.
I'm in between at the moment. As i'm sure some of you know i'm not old enough to have a cheque book, credit card or even a debit card ( ) so I have to rely on my parents for online purchases. That also puts me in an awkward position of if something goes wrong (for example if my dads credit card is scammed or the like) I am responsible.
I have seen a very nice bargain on Ebuyer Corsair RAM and i'm considering buying it as i'm kinda tight on money.

Now what I am unsure about is what exactly is ebuyer, is it an auction type place or is it somewhere I can trust with a credit card like Scan or others?
    Cheers for your help guys

Very trustworthy. Its just a very large company, so they buy in lots of stock and then can sell it cheaply. Surely you have a solo card already? Thats what i use when i order online.

Hmm i think its as soon as you turn 16 they send you a solo card. You can always go in and ask at your local branch.

Ebuyer are trustworthy enough. They also have done a very commendable thing - provided a load of thinga cheaply, for they price you'd expect to pay, not 5-10 pounds for a tiny cable. My only gripe with them is their policy of delivering on the last day possible without breaking their promise. I.e. they hold your item all packed and ready for a couple of days and send it the day before it should arrive. They have however introduced free shipping on a number of small items like flash memory.

They are fine to deal with generally. I managed to have an item replaced after it failed without much trouble.

You can have a debit card r1zeek.

Open a current account with any bank and they will give you a kiddy debit card, solo/visa electron... and then you can buy online.

Ebuyer are ok, however their returns people are a bit dim generally. My first maxtor was DOA and i tried to RMA it to them. All I kept getting was 'please run the diagnostic software from maxtor and provide us with the code before we will issue a RMA number'. I explained to them in very simple terms that this was not possible and got back a very similar reply, so rma'd to maxtor instead. Otherwise fine, abeit slighty slow delivery in comparison to other places.

you can get a visa electron, but not a visa credit/delta until you turn 18 as you cannt get credit or an overdraft until then which is basically what visa credit/delta cards are.

I heard somewhere that they're phasing switch cards out and replacing them with visa delta cards and solo cards with visa electron in some banks. They're basically the same thing except you can use visa delta anywhere it says VISA and you can only currently use switch cards in the UK iirc. But they are changing the name of switch to maestro, so i dont know what kind of difference that would make.

anyways, r1zeek, go into a bank with £10+ and open a current account (HSBC and halifax bank of scotland are perticularly good) and you'll get a solo card/visa electron
